Theory of Structure and Counterstructure

The Theory of Structure and Counter-structure.

This formula, developed initially with regard to the psychological aspects of feminist literary criticism and the specific question of women’s subjectivity as writers, owes obvious debts to Hume and Hegel .

It is formed of the following propositions: 1. Every structure (e.g. a political system: democracy; a human concept: liberty, or freedom; a mindset: lifestyle) is inedaquate or incomplete in relation to the universal system (the world, life, etc.) in which it is situated, that is, with regard to its universal set. 2. The gap between the structure(s) and the universal set or system is the domain of counterstructure, i.e. the behaviours, mechanisms, strategies — often private, informal and even covert — by which actors in the system try to complete its insufficiencies; these acts, strategies, language uses may be palliative, philosophical, reformist or transgressive, e.g. world associations or alliances, political action, charitable endeavour, or again philosophical reflection of an anacrostic type; implementing of reform programmes; or crime, direct action, damage to others or to oneself, revolution and its avatars. 3. When the counterstructures have become strong enough, or the incompletativity of the structure in place has become intolerable, or both, change takes place, perhaps revolutionary change, whereby elements of the counterstructure — usually the stronger ones — pass from the counterstructure into the structure, the significant distinction from the dialectic model and even the dialogic model being that the enactment of meaning between the domains is partitive and relational, and not epistemic or ontological; 4. Generally, certainly until now in human history, the reform is incompletative, and so the newly-formed or reformed structure rearticulates itself into structure and counterstructure, and the entropic energy transferred into the structure, strengthening it, begins now to regenerate itself in the counterstructure. Note A: this, if true, is useful to explain certain otherwise odd things about change : why, for example our lived experience of change is so painful, even when the change was wished for and is hte outcome of struggle; why groups located in the counterstructure are wary of the change proposed. An example of this would be 20th century changes in women’s condition: there is a perception that if women leave their long-term counter-structures of covert power-manipulation in order to assume a public role as equal citizens, they may become vulnerable, unless the transfer from counterstructure to structure is completative, which is uncertain, so that it will not compensate for the loss of counterstructural power — in which case they might lose more than they gained. Note B: non-completativity is often articulated as something else, as a datum of life : 'Life is unfair', when life is clearly what we make it. Groups in the structure, who most benefit from it, may seek to consecrate hierarchisation, but many examples exist of structural hierarchies which, in fact, initiated reform and the shift of energy from counterstructure to structure, understanding that the absence of change is impossible, and that the flow of energy to the structure may be useful and needed.

Mitchell Young

Mitchell Young was born in 1964 and is one of the most famous soccer players in the world today, having played 104 national caps for his home team of kazakhstan and playing in the English Premier league for Liverpol holding still today the most goals scored in one season which was 106. His playing carrer started at the age of 6 when he was chosen to play for the representative side called the Dumstrut Whales under 10 team. This proves the skill level he had as he was 6 years old and playing kids 4 years older than him.

Mitchell's proffessional career started when he made the youth national team at the age of 16. Then at 19 getting selected in the national team. Captaining the side one year later and leading them into the world cup in 1984. This world cup tour was to be one of Mitchells lowest points of his career where here they let in a total of 46 goals in 3 games and not scoring one goal except for a streaker runing onto the pitch and slotting one home. Against Brazil the kazakhstanian team got beat a humiliatng 31 nil with 3 players being sent off because of terrorist suspicions.

Mitchell in 1987 got selected to play for Liverpool in the English club where he was earning just over 2.3 million a week. Enough to feed his whole country for the year. Mitchell played a very successful first season where as mentioned before scored 106 goals in his season with 13 in one game against the worst team in the comp at the time, Cheasea.

The next season Mitchell Shatered his leg in an awful tackle which left him in a wheel chair for the rest of his life.

Divine Ascension came together six months ago after their line up was complete: Guitarists Robb Inglis and Karl Szulik, keyboardist Don Marciano, bassist Jerran Schmidt and drummer Luke Wenczel joined lead singer Jennifer Borg at the helm.

Discovering they shared similar visions about the music they wanted to create they began writing and rehearsing. And now, Divine Ascension have laid strong foundations that should see them succeed in the future.

Lyrically, Divine Ascension has a message. Their songs are about the inner battles we all face at different stages in our lives. They are delivered with such emotion and power that they really drive these messages home.

Divine Ascension does not fit easily into the stereotypical metal genres. It could be labelled as melodic metal, but it draws influences from old school metal, power metal and progressive metal, and with a female belting out the lyrics, Divine Ascension have managed to find their own niche.

Determined to break into the world wide metal scene, Divine Ascension are hoping to gather a strong following, record and tour, but more importantly provide Melbourne, and indeed Australia, with such a glorious reason to be proud of their undying melodic metal scene.

Fifth Cinema

The notion of a Fifth Cinema was developed by Dr. Ricardo Peach as part of his PhD thesis titled 'Queer Cinema as a Fifth Cinema in South Africa and Australia' in 2005 (http://epress.lib.uts.edu.au/dspace/handle/2100/425). He first presented his concept publicly at the Third Annual Hawaii International Conference on Arts and Humanities in 2005 (http://www.hichumanities.org/AH%202005%20Final%20Program.pdf).

Through a comparative analysis of the Queer cinematic cultures of South Africa and Australia, and stemming from their strong activist beginnings, Peach proposes the existence of a new genus of cinema he terms Fifth Cinema. For him Fifth Cinema includes Queer Cinema, Feminist Cinema and Immigrant/Multicultural Cinema and can be informed by First Cinema (classical, Hollywood), Second Cinema (arthouse or dual national cinemas), and Third and Fourth Cinema (cinema dealing with the decolonisation of Third World and Fourth World people).

Fifth Cinema, however, endeavours to assist in decolonisation not of itself (as does critical First Cinema), or of one dominant cinematic form by another (Second Cinema), or of one ‘nation’ by another (Third and Fourth Cinema); rather it seeks to decolonise discriminatory and dominating representations that come from within a society of origin or a society lived in by choice.

It develops its unique difference by engaging with the internal struggle of the dominant cultures within which it exists. Some of the dominant cultural ideologies that it challenges can include women's, transgender's and men’s lives which are often 'colonised' by patriarchal structures; Queer and non-Queer people's lives which are often colonised by the hetero-dominant ideologies of sex and gender master-discourses; and immigrant lives and those from multicultural backgrounds that can often be dominated by ideas of nationalisms, race and ethnicity that exclude them.

Fifth Cinema as a decolonising agent in this context therefore refers to the drive for self-determination and the development of interventions and representations that counter dominant, cultural cinematic forms within cultures of origin or cultures of choice.

Carniny Youth Football Club

Carniny Youth Football club is a cross community club based in Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

It has a membership of around 250 players of various ages between 7-17 years old. The club has a mini soccer centre and seven eleven a side teams. It was founded in 2000 and is based at Carnhill Playing Fields, Ballymena.

The eleven a side teams play in the South Belfast Youth League and the East Antrim Youth League.
