Open Source Solution for Job Scheduling

The Open Source Job Scheduler is an enterprise level job schedulers on the market that are available open source.

The Open Source Job Scheduler is used for automation, e.g. process automation [link]. The Job Scheduler can be operated in combination with free database systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL or Firebird, but also for SQL Server, Oracle or DB2.

Key Functionalities:

  • Launch executable files and shell scripts
  • Run database procedures automatically
  • Jobs are configurable as Web Services to provide interoperability with enterprise applications, e.g. SOA architectures (BPEL).

Mode of Operation:

  • Used for batch scheduling, the Job Scheduler runs as demon in the background
  • Job control is possible via built-in graphical user interfaces
  • Executable files are configured per XML or shell scripts, same applies to job starts and job frequency etc.

Job Execution:

  • Processing of sequential and parallel tasks
  • Jobs are organized in job chains
  • Jobs can run in multiple instances and are scalable
  • Monitoring of directories can trigger job starts, this allows the integration of legacy applications into the business workflow
