"Gimme More"
Song

"Gimme More" is a song by by American pop singer Britney Spears, and it is the first single from her yet-to-be-named fifth album, which is planned to be released on November 13 2007.[1] According to Access Hollywood and EW, the song was produced and written by Nate "Danja" Hills.[2][3] It was also co-written by Keri Hilson, James Washington, and Marcella Araica. On August 30 2007, "Gimme More" premiered on New York City radio station Z100's web site,[1][4] followed by premieres in other major markets such as KIIS-FM in Los Angeles, 97.1 ZHT in Salt Lake City and Hot 99.5 in Washington, D.C.[5]

Music video

Spears filmed the music video for "Gimme More" in a warehouse in downtown Los Angeles on July 19 and August 7, 2007.[6]

Critical reception

Spears' first major radio release in nearly four years caused the single to become highly popular in a short period of time. Two days after its release, "Gimme More" had already received over 600 spins in several radio stations. The song received a positive review from Blender Magazine, which rated the song four out of five stars.[7]

MTV Video Music Awards performance

Spears opened the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards with a performance of "Gimme More." The performance had been highly hyped and anticipated by MTV and various other media outlets as Spears' "comeback" performance.

Following the performance, public reaction immediately arose on various blogs and sites as the performance received an overwhelmingly negative reaction. Spears' muddled choreography, her inability to lip-sync to the song, her lack of interest in what she was doing, and the general sloppiness of the performance when compared to Spears' previous VMA stints have been at the center of the criticism.

Audience member Common later stated "She didn't seem like she wanted to be there. There was no spark". Fellow attendee Akon added, "I think she needed to have focused more on the show and less on the parties." In addition, the live broadcast featured many close-up shots of the event guest's reactions during the performance, most notably timbaland and Rihanna, both of whom did not seem to be into the show.[8]

Blender (who previously gave a positive review of the song)[9], and MSN are some of sites to have reacted negatively to the performance. MSN added, "there was just so much that went wrong." [10]

However, there have been a few stars who have applauded Spears' performance at the VMA's Nicole Scherzinger said, "it was cool, I was just sending her good vibes the whole time." 50 Cent also stated that Spears' performance was a "highlight" and saying, "I told you outside, she was gonna be the hottest thing, and she did it, she worked it out."[3]

In addition, illusionist Criss Angel was cancelled from the performance last minute for insurance and hotel reasons. [11]
It has been reported that Britney Spears has been offered a second chance to perform "Gimme More" on Extra. [12]
