Introduction

Brevard County is a county in the state of Florida. It may have been named for Dr. Ephraim Brevard, who wrote the so-called Mecklenberg Declaration of Independence, or for George Washington Brevard, whe served as Florida State Comptroller from 1854 to 1860.

Saint Lucia County was created in 1844. It was renamed Brevard County in 1855.
