Luke Brennan was recruited at pick 8 in the 2002 National Draft. After just 19 games in 4 seasons, he has struggled at the elite level. He played 10 games in a row during the middle part of the 2005 season but has since failed to recapture that form.

Brennan can play in different positions, but has had particular success as a spoiling defender and as a strong marking half forward.

Brennan was delisted by Hawthorn at the end of the 2006 Australian Football League season. He was later selected by Sydney in the 2006 AFL rookie draft.
