Alice is a fictional character and the primary heroine of the Resident Evil film series, based on the Resident Evil video game series. Though she does not appear in the games, she does eventually interact with a number of characters from the games including Jill Valentine, Carlos Oliveira, Claire Redfield and Nemesis. Her primary antagonist is the Umbrella Corporation, which was the company she used to work for. In Resident Evil, she is displayed as suffering from amnesia. In Resident Evil: Apocalypse, her character is portrayed as tough and rugged, as she is more familiar with the situation surrounding her. She will play a similar role in the up-coming Resident Evil: Extinction.

Alice is portrayed by Milla Jovovich in all three films and is also known as Janus Prospero, Alice Parks, and Alice Abernathy (primarily in the novelizations).

Alice in Resident Evil

In Resident Evil, Alice awakens on the floor of a bathroom, with no apparent memory of who she is. Upon exploring her surroundings, she discovers that she is in a elaborately decorated mansion. She is suddenly confronted by Matt Addison. Just as he grabs her, a team of heavily armed people wearing military equipment smash through the windows and apprehends the two. They then venture into an underground railway station through a secret passageway. One, the team's leader, informs Alice they were sent by Umbrella to investigate the happenings of The Hive, a large top secret underground laboratory owned and operated by the Umbrella Corporation located beneath the neighboring town of Raccoon City, and that her memory loss was caused when a nerve gas was released into the mansion by the Hive's defense system activated by The Red Queen. On the train to the Hive, they encounter Spence Parks, who appears to be suffering from the same memory loss as Alice. She learns that she worked for Umbrella and that Spence and her were placed at the mansion to guard the entrance of the Hive, posing as husband and wife. Upon entering the Hive, they learn that the Red Queen has killed everyone to prevent a viral outbreak from spreading. After Chad Kaplan disables the Hive's security system, they are attacked by hordes of zombies, cerberus and eventually a licker.

Throughout the film, Alice experiences flashbacks's while wandering the Hive's laboratories. Though working for Umbrella, it's revealed Alice was willing to expose Umbrella's dangerous and illegal experiments in order to bring the company down. After full restoration of her memories, she tells Matt that she was his sister’s, Lisa, contact within the Hive, who was trying to smuggle out a sample of the T-Virus. Alice implies to that she has access to "security codes, surveillance plans, the works". However, her plans were foiled by Spence who had his own personal agenda to retrieve the T-Virus and sell it on the black market. After the outbreak in the underground laboratory, which is revealed to be caused by Spence, Alice and Matt were the only survivors to escape the Hive. Upon returning to the mansion, both are seized by Umbrella scientists and taken into quarantine at the Raccoon City Hospital. Alice wakes up on a table in a big white room with no knowledge of what has happened. As she goes outside, she sees the town in ruins and picks up a shotgun from a police car.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse

In Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Alice discovers that she has been genetically altered by exposure to the T-Virus, and is left with no memory as to what happened to her. During the evacuation of Raccoon City, Alice is released by the Umbrella employed Major Cain to combat their latest bio-weapon Nemesis. Upon escaping the hospital, Alice discovers that the T-Virus escaped The Hive and has now spread into the civil population of Raccoon City. Wandering around the city, Alice receives flashbacks that reveal, during her quarantine session, that she was injected with a new strain of the virus.

After saving a group of survivors from three Lickers inside a church, she threatens to kill S.T.A.R.S.-member Peyton who has been bitten by a zombie to prevent further infection of their group. His partner Jill Valentine, stops her and insists that she will take care of Peyton if he turns. Alice explains her knowledge regarding the events leading into the outbreak at Raccoon City. The group receive a phone call from Dr. Ashford and make a deal to rescue his daughter Angela Ashford in exchange for a safe route out of the city. Alice rescues Angela and Jill from the infected Doberman from the K-9 unit and meets Carlos Olivera, whom was infected by a zombie bite from a former comrade, and former street 3-card dealer, L.J. She later administrates the antivirus from Angela to heal Carlos from the infection while the group is on the way to City Hall for their transport.

When told to meet at City Hall, Major Cain overrules Dr. Ashford's plan and orders the immediate activation of their Nemesis program (the mutated Matt Addison). Alice and The Nemesis engage in battle, in which Alice emerges victorious. Discovering the creature was once her friend, Alice refuses to kill Nemesis. Major Cain attempts to win Alice over, he states that Alice was unique and adaptated to the changes from the T-Virus quite well. Unlike Nemesis, Alice merged human characteristics and superhuman strength into one, creating a new bioweapon. When Alice refused still, she was condemned to death.

When Major Cain orders Nemesis to kill Alice, he instead fires on Cain's Umbrella agents, aiding the remainder of Alice's group in their escape. Realizing his plans have failed, a nuclear strike is ordered by Major Cain on the city. Nemesis perishes protecting Alice from the falling debris of a falling helicopter. During their escape, Alice is impaled by a loose pole when protecting Angela Ashford, whilst fleeing in the helicopter. Three hours later in the Arklay Mountains, a team sent by Umbrella, led by Dr. Isaacs, retrieve Alice from the helicopter wreckage to further experiment upon.

Three weeks after the Raccoon City Incident, Alice awakens submerged in an underwater tank with no memory of the events before. It is revealed that not only does she have great physical powers but also great regenerative ones as well as she managed to regenerate herself with the help of a tank of nutrients. When asked about her name or any indication of the incident, Alice's memory is reduced to that of a toddler. However, this triggers a series of violent and rapid flashbacks, thus restoring her memory. In turn, Alice responds, "My name is Alice. And I remember everything,".

She escapes the facility, after her power have been shown to have adavanced to include telekinesis (a technican commented on how amazingly both her physical and mental powers have grown indicating that this is simply another power that developed due to her exposure to the T-Virus) is shown killing a security guard by simply looking into the camera. When exiting the facility, Alice is confronted by a group of armed guards and is saved by Jill, L.J, and Carlos Olivera (accompanied by Angela Ashford), posing as Umbrella agents. During their departure, Dr. Isaacs orders the security guards to let them go. As they depart Dr. Isaacs orders the activation of "Program Alice".

Resident Evil: Extinction

In the up-coming film, Resident Evil: Extinction, eight years have passed, Alice now leads a group of survivors, the few who survived the world-wide T-Virus outbreak, from the Nevada desert to Alaska, in a pursuit against the Umbrella Corporation. In the novel, she is nicknamed "Ass-Kicking Alice" (a possible pun to the initialism AKA, also known as). In the beginning, Alice had gone her separate ways from Jill, Carlos, and L.J before reuniting with them and the convoy she now helps lead. It is most likely that she and Carlos Olivera are romantically involved as they are seen kissing both theatrical, teaser, and red band trailers. In the novelization her telekinetic powers are shown a bit more clearly as she uses them first by accident after having a nightmare, then to save Carlos and to kill a flock of zombie crows and then to disable a satilite. At the end it is also shown that she has telepathic powers although that could be due to the person she communicated with telepathicly was a clone of her and is supposed to have at least some of her powers. Also thanks to the White Queen (sister AI to the Red Queen) she discovers that due to her blood having bonded with the T-Virus like it did, it holds the key to the cure to the T-Virus.
