Maria Bergams 1867 1954 was an Italian woman chosen as a symbol of all Italian mother that had lost a son during World war I and don't know where her beloved is buried.

Life

Born in Gradisca d'Isonzo 23 January 1867 he lived for many years in Trieste.At the time both Gradisca d'Isonzo and Trieste were part of Austria Hungaryso her only child Antonio was drafted into Austrian Army.In 1916 Antonio desert and joined the Regio Esercito but was killed in action on 16 June 1916; his body weren't recovered. After the war on 26 October 1921 she chosen in Aquileia from 11 unknow bodies of member of Italian Armed Forces a body that were placed on 4 november 1921 in the unknow soldier graveyard in Rome. Bergamas dies in 1952 on 4 November 1954 46th anniversary victory in the cemetery of Aquileia togheter with the bodies of the other 10 unknow sodier that she didn't chosen.
