A Twist in the Myth is the eighth studio album by the German power metal band Blind Guardian. It was originally set to be released on September 5, 2006, but Nuclear Blast changed the release date to September 1, 2006 (Except in North-America where it was released September 5). The promo version of the album leaked on July 2 2006. The retail version of the album leaked in August of 2006 with "Dead Sound of Misery" and the English interview.

The album was released in several different formats: a normal version, a digipack version with bonus track and bonus CD, and a limited edition book-version. The book contains the digipack, along with a guitar pick, booklet and certificate of authenticity and autographs.

Lyrical references

  • "This Will Never End" is inspired by Walter Moers' Wild Ride Through the Night.
  • "Otherland" is based on Tad Williams' Otherland series of novels.
  • "Turn the Page" contains references to the Wicca-Religion and is about renewal in general.
  • "Fly" contains references to Peter Pan and was inspired by the film Finding Neverland.
  • "Carry the Blessed Home" is about Roland the Gunslinger at the end of Stephen King's Dark Tower series.
  • "Another Stranger Me" portrays the mind of a person with multiple personalities who becomes aware of his other self. It draws inspiration from The Drawing of the Three, book two of Stephen King's Dark Tower series.
  • "Straight through the Mirror" tells how dreams can change very quickly - it's about the importance of dreams in general too. Some claim it's about a person describing the experience and process of dying while in reality this person is just dreaming it all.
  • "Lionheart" is about Ulysses and his travels to Hades.
  • "Skalds and Shadows" is about the tales of Old Norse Skalds
  • "The Edge" is about St. Paul and his version of Christ.
