"Beautiful Girls"
Song

"Beautiful Girls" is a song by reggae-influenced musician Sean Kingston from his eponymous debut. The song heavily samples Ben E. King's classic "Stand By Me". The song is about women and how they can make a man suicidal when they decide a relationship is over. Certain radio stations play the censored version of the song, which replaces the word "suicidal" with "in denial". On MTV the word suicidal is completely removed with no replacement. Lil' Mama, Lil' JJ, Marlon Wayans and Brandon T. Jackson make cameo appearances.

Music Video

The video premiered on June 29, 2007, on Y! Music. The video features Kingston and a parade of extras eating and dancing at the Johnie's Broiler diner in two separate times, one in a vague 1950s setting and the other in a contemporary setting.

Controversy

The track has been completely de-playlisted from FM104 in Dublin due to the references to suicide contained within. It was allegedly pulled from 2fm although a spokesperson said the song is currently not on its playlist but could not confirm if it had been in the past. [1]

Remixes & Covers

There is also a remix with rapper Sheek Louch, and another remix with new instrumentals features Cuban rapper Pitbull.

JoJo produced her own version of "Beautiful Girls", titled "Beautiful Girls Reply", but it does not feature Sean Kingston. It was available as a free, legal download on her MySpace page. The original Myspace mp3 is now available on archive.org. It's currently 39 on the Rhythmic Top 40 chart. [1] Reggae rapper Collie Buddz and pop singer James Longhornhave also recorded a covers of the song.

Reggae sister duo Brick & Lace used the instrumental from the track and recorded a reply to this song called "Heartbreaker." Although it has not officially been released it receives some airplay. [citation needed] Nerdcore rapper [2]MC Skeletor recently did a cover which he made available on his Myspace page.

Reggae comedy duo Twin of Twins used the instrumental version of the song for their 2007 song "A Who Catch Heart attack," a commentary on Beenie Man, available on their myspace page.

The official remix features Fabolous & Lil Boosie.

There is also a mix in which Ben E. King's two original verses are featured along with Kingston's.

Chart Performance

The song started to gain massive airplay before its digital release, and was able to chart as high as number 17 on the Hot 100 without any assistance from digital sales. On July 24, "Beautiful Girls" was accidentally leaked onto the U.S. iTunes Store, two days before the planned release date. Within 24 hours after its official digital release on July 26, the song shot to the top spot of iTunes. The week after the song's digital release it hit number one on Billboard's Hot Digital Songs, debuting with 260,000 downloads in its first week (the second highest digital sales for a new song of 2007, only behind Rihanna's "Umbrella").[3] This made Kingston the first person who was born in the 90's to top the Hot 100 (Soulja Boy would become the second person born in the 90's to top the chart, only six weeks after Kingston). [3] The same week the song advanced from #23 to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It has has also gone on to occupy the top spot on the U.S. Hot 100 Airplay and the Canadian Hot 100. The song is currently number 1 in the UK on the Top 75 Singles Chart.
