Bias

Gregory is certainly not without bias. He writes from a strongly pro-catholic perspecive, i.e. he is anti-Arian, anti-pagan and even antisemitic. For example when one of the Frankian kings is welcomed by both Syrians and Jews (in their own languages) he lauds the king for answering the Jews' welcome by closing their synagogues. Whether the king was actually as intolerant as he, is not clear. Gregory also claims that the Visigoth king Reccared who converted from Arianism to Catholicism proceeded to suppress Arianism. This is clearly wishful thinking on his part.
