The Beatmen
The Beatmen |
---|
The Beatmen was a Slovak rock band singing in English, that existed from 1965 to 1966. Although they released only 4 songs, they remain being one of the most significant bands of the Czechoslovak popular music history. They were one of the first widely popular Big Beat bands (Big Beat being the name referring to the musical style of the middle European guitar bands in the sixties) in Czechoslovakia and they were the first band from behind the iron curtain to play in the western Europe. The band was the first bigger success of the singer and guitarist Dežo Ursiny, who later became a legend of the Czechoslovak music.
Music of the Beatmen is mightily influenced by their sixties favourites, especially The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, as is obvious from the listening. Their song Let's Make A Summer has been highly critically acclaimed and remains being one of the best songs written in the history of the Czechoslovak popular music. Except their four official songs, The Beatmen recorded couple of non-released rarities, including a cover of Beatles' She Loves You, with Slovak lyrics.
