Wikipedia:Wikimedia sister projects

To link sister projects using traditional inline text links see Wikipedia:Interwikimedia links.

This page lists templates that are designed to provide article-to-article linking between Wikipedia and its Wikimedia sister projects. It also provides links to pages concerning moving articles between projects.

Guidelines

Wikipedia encourages links to sister projects and interlanguage links when possible. However, links to sister projects should not be inserted excessively.

Convention is to include each reference, link, or definition only once within an article, at the first appropriate point. Links to "Wikimedia sister projects" are best placed in the section of the article to which they relate, including Lead section, if possible; otherwise, they are usually placed in either "See also" section or External links section (though InterWikimedia links cannot be External links).

For example, a link to Wikiquote might be placed before any discussion of quotations, and a link to Wikinews before the description of the event, so that those articles are obviously sourced in the composition.

In some cases, such as disambiguation articles, they are best placed in the article's introduction (Lead section).

See below for a complete rundown.

If the name of the "Wikimedia sister project" (the article which you recommend to readers) is "Wikisource":

  • {{Copy to Wikisource}} - This copy of primary source in Wikipedia article should be copied to "Wikisource". Even after copying, please don't remove the important and/or necessary copy of the primary source from the Wikipedia article for the sake of other readers and editors.
  • {{Wikisource}} - An article in "Wikisource" with the same title is about the same topic.
  • {{Wikisource|Pagename}} - Pagename in "Wikisource" is about the same topic.
    • {{Wikisource|Pagename1|Pagename2}}). Pagename1 and Pagename2 in "Wikisource" are about the same topic.
    • It is the same when there are more than two related articles in "Wikisource".
