Croc 2, released in 1999, is the sequel to Croc: Legend of the Gobbos. Developed by Argonaut Software between 1998 and 1999, and published by Fox Interactive, Croc 2 was released on Game Boy Color, Windows and PlayStation (planned for a release on Sega Saturn and Sega Dreamcast but both got cancelled). The plot revolves around Croc's mission to save the Inventor Gobbo from the evil Baron Dante, who with the aid of his servants, the Dantinis, has come back to life, as well as search for Croc's parents. The original soundtrack features the guitarist Simon Gosling.

Storyline

Previously... A baby Crocodile was found by the friendly Gobbos, cute little furballs who inhabit the Gobbo Islands.

Rufus, King of the Gobbos adopted the foundling, and with the help of the rest of the tribe, raised him, teaching him the ways of the Gobbos.

All was well until, one day, the evil magician Baron Dante arrived in the valley where the Gobbos lived. Dante was a miserable magician who took great pleasure in inflicting pain and suffering on others. Sickened by the happy Gobbos, he and his rampaging Dantinis swept into the Gobbo Valley capturing the Gobbos. King Rufus was taken by Dante himself and kept in a cage inside his Tower of Terror.

Croc managed to avoid capture but was left all alone. He knew he had to try to help the Gobbos any way that he could and that he must save the King from Dante.

After many adventrues, Croc succeeded in freeing the Gobbos, defeating the Baron and saving their King. Everything was back to normal in Gobbo Valley and the Gobbos celebrated by erecting a statue of Croc in their Valley.

Now... With Dante gone, Croc and the Gobbos have resumed their lives of playing and having fun, but meantime, not too far away, evil Dantinis start to bring their evil Master back to life. Unfortunately, the Inventor Gobbo is captured when he witnesses Dante's return.

One day, while Croc was playing on the beach, Croc found a bottle at his feet, He picked it up and, inside, found a message with a baby crocodile footprint on it. The message explained that the senders were looking for their long-lost son.

Croc was shocked. He took the message to King Rufus who read it and eventually told Croc that he would need to go to a far away land where there were other Gobbos who might be able to help him to find his parents.

With that, all the Gobbos help to make a see-saw that can catapult Croc all the way to the distand mainland, where the game starts.

Gameplay

The gameplay has advanced considerably compared to the previous game. Instead of simply finding six gobbos in each level, the player must now complete various tasks.

Croc begins with five lives (hearts) and must find or buy heart pots to be able to have more than five lives at one time. If Croc is wounded by an enemy he loses one life, but does not go back to the beginning of the level. If he falls down a bottomless pit or is unable to get out of a lava pit in time, he reverts back to the last save gong. Once he has lost all his lives, he returns back to the village door in which he entered the level.

There are four villages Croc must traverse through before reaching the end of the game, each with gobbos of different personalities. The four villages are the Sailor Village (fields and sea), the Cossack Village (Snow and Ice), the Caveman Village (Prehistoric) and the Inca Village (City and temple). Each village has 5 main levels (2 for Inca), 2 bosses (1 for Inca) and a secret Golden Gobbo door. in every level there's a shop. croc can buy all sorts of devices and item that can be used during a level or in the main level. one of the items croc can buy is a small remote control robot that allows croc to gather more diamonds.

Main Levels

For each level, Croc will solve the problem of the Gobbo waiting outside. Inside each is a key to solving the problem, 100 clear gems, and 5 colored crystals (red, green, purple, blue and yellow). Upon finding all five, a portal to the Golden Gobbo area (which allows the player to win that level's Golden Gobbo) will appear. These areas are usually very difficult and can only be attempted once per level entry. In vehicle levels, finding all gems will cause the Gobbo to appear directly.

Boss Levels

The boss levels, as the name implies, have a boss. Each world has two, with the exception of the Inca village, which has only one. The player must complete three levels to unlock the first boss and the remaining two levels to unlock the second. Once the second boss has been defeated, Croc can progress to the next world. The Bosses are...

Sailor Village

Cossack Village

Caveman Village

  • Venus Fly Von-Trappe
  • Robotic Dinosaur

Inca Village

End Game Bosses

  • Goo Man Chu (in Goo Man Chu's tower)
  • Baron Dante II

Golden Gobbo Doors

In each world, there is one Golden Gobbo door. Once the player walks through this door, they lose five Golden Gobbos (irrespective of which world the Golden Gobbos were picked up in), or two for the Inca village.

Trivia

  • Various "flavors" of Gummi Savers are used throughout some versions of the game, providing Croc with an obstacle-clearing Super Jump. Other versions offer jelly in different colors.
  • The two final bosses Goo Man Chu and Baron Dante II, are fought in different ways than the other bosses. The only thing you have to do when fighting Goo Man Chu, is to switch a tap, and the only thing you have to do when fighting Dante, is to keep him busy while your gobbo friend opens a crystal portal. All bosses except these two has three lifes.
  • At the very end of the credits, it's said that Croc will return. However, this has not happened yet.
