The flag of Uzbekistan was adopted on November 18, 1991. The crescent, as well as the white and green colors of the stripes represent Islam. The red of the flag resembles the bricks of the ancient mosque of Samarkand, and the twelve stars on the blue stripe symbolize the twelve main mosques of Tashkent.
