Dr. Risto Kirjazovski (Template:Lang-mk (6 January 1927 - 3 October 2002) is an Ethnic Macedonian historian, scientist and publisher. Partisan in the NOF, and participant in the Greek Civil War. After 1949 he refuges in SR Macedonia and spends his whole life on scientific research in the Archives of Macedonia and the Institute of National History in Skopje.
Early life and Partisan activity
Dr. Risto Kirjazovski is born on 6 January 1927 in the Kastorian village Chloi (Template:Lang-gr, Greek Macedonia). He finishes his primary education in his native village, just before the beginning of the Second World War.
Just before his 16-th birthday, Kirjazovski becomes a participant in the national-liberation war in Greece. In February 1943 as a voluntary he enters the ranks of ELAS (Greek National Liberation Army), and after the Varkiza agreement for the disarming of ELAS, he enrolls in the ethnic Macedonian organization NOF (National Liberation Front of the Macedonians from Greek Macedonia). He takes part in the first armed battles between NOF and the Greek monarcho-fascist terrorist bands, and after 1946, when NOF unites with the DSE (Democratic Army of Greece), becomes a fighter in the DSE and takes part in important battles in the Greek Civil War.
Because of the fact that he was the only literate boy in his detachment, the commanders gave him important roles in writing reports and command - an attribute that gave him access to first hand information which he will afterwards use in his publications.
Risto Kirjazovski shows extraordinary courage during the military operations on mount Vitsi, when the fighters of the DSE (composed by 60% of ethnic Macedonians) were conducting heavy battles for every single centimeter of land. In the Vitsi battle, Kirjazovski is wounded two times (in the leg and in the chest).
He is a partisan from 1943 till September 1949 when the DSE is defeated and retreats to Albania.
Scientific and publicist work
After the defeat of the Democratic Army, Kirjazovski crosses into the Socialist Republic of Macedonia, where he finishes second, and in 1958 his university degree. Several years he works as a teacher in Skopje and Resen, and from 1962 he is an employee in the Archives of Macedonia, and from 1 June 1974 he is works in the Institute of National History as a higher scientific cooperator. In 1978 he is elected the rank scientific councilor. In 1982 he obtains his academic degree doctor of sciences.
The research of Dr. Kirjazovski is focused mainly on the newest history of Aegean Macedonia (1912-1949), but also e has publications which are in reference with the happenings from the end of XIX century.
Dr. Risto Kirjazovski has published over 150 articles in scientific magazines, digest, and newspapers; he has made revisions of several books; of valuable importance is his role in the collection and ordering of the archive documentation on the Greek Civil War; and also speeches, presentations, symposiums est.
Of great interest are his articles, which are entirely written on the basis of till then unknown rich archive documentation which can be found today in the Archives of Macedonia (in both Greek and Macedonian languages). The field of research in his articles and scientific works is: the policy of the Communist party of Greece towards the Macedonian Question, participation of the ethnic Macedonians in the DSE, the of the ethnic Macedonians from Greece for the usage of the Macedonian language in schools, the aims and actions of the NOF and others.
