Central Elgin Collegiate Institute is the largest of three public secondary schools in St. Thomas, Ontario.

CECI has a reputation as an academically-minded secondary school. At one time the school was part of the International Baccalaureate Organization; however, that status is no longer recognized.[2] The school has a strong reputation for its athletics, especially men's basketball, men's volleyball, men's and women's tennis, and women's soccer teams. It also has the only wrestling team in Elgin County.

Central also has a very strong music program. The school has a Concert Band, Grade 9 Band, Senior Wind Ensemble, Choir and the Jazz Band.

Centrals current principal is Arlene Gleason along with vice-principals.

Notable Annual Events

Central Elgin takes pride in her many traditions, which include:

  • Pep Rallies
  • The United Way Talent Show (each fall).
  • The Teachers' Christmas Assembly.
  • Motivational Speakers/Hypnotists/Magicians
  • March Madness, a series of activities to celebrate the coming of the March Break.
  • School trips. Italy 2006, France and England 2007, Rome and Athens 2008
  • The Grad Show, an assembly held in June of each year in which the students in grade 12 perform music and skits to entertain the rest of the school. Unfortunately, in 2005 the Grad Show was cancelled due to a streaking incident, but may be reinstated if precautions are taken.[citation needed]
