Dog violet is the common name for various species of the plant genus Viola with unscented flowers, including the Common dog violet (Viola riviniana), the Early dog violet (Viola richenbachiana), and the Heath dog violet (Viola canina). The term arose to differentate them from the scented sweet violet.
