A region of California, USA. At the southern end of California’s Central Valley. It has around 660,000 residents in an area of 8,073 square miles. It's capital is Bakersfield. The county has a large agricultural base and is a significant producer of energy. It is also noted for it's mineral wealth including gold, oil, natural gas and Kernite, which was discovered there in 1926.

There is a military presence with Edwards Air Force Base and China Lake Naval Warfare Centre.
