California Southern University (previously called Southern California University for Professional Studies) is an unaccredited private online education university that began its operations in 1978. The University offers associate, bachelor's, master's and doctorate degree programs.

California Southern University's corporate offices are in Santa Ana at 1840 E. 17th Street, Santa Ana, California 92705.

According to California Southern, the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (BPPVE) approved the school to operate in California.[1].

HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY:

The University was established in California on December 27, 1978 under the name of Southern California University for Professional Studies (SCUps) as a traditional paper and pencil correspondence school. In the 1980’s the University received its initial approval to offer degree programs from the California State Department of Education.

The following degrees were offered:

   * Associates ofArts in Business Administration (AABA)
   * Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA)
   * Masters in Business Administration (MBA)

The University quickly established itself as a leader in distance learning. During the 1990’s, the University responded to the growing need for quality distance learning programs in the fields of Business, Psychology and Law. After consultation with its constituencies, the Board of Psychology and the California Committee of Bar Examiners the University expanded its degree offerings to include the following:

   * Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice (AACJ)
   * Associate of Arts in Paralegal Studies (AAPS)
   * Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies (AALS)
   * Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice (BACJ)
   * Bachelor of Science in Law (BSL)

As technology advanced, the University incorporated these advancements to facilitate the delivery of educational services utilizing email and the internet. In January, 2006 we began our transition from correspondence to a completely online system. This new online platform has been received with overwhelming commendations for ease of use, quicker response times, accessibility to other students, and easy access to online library resources.

In 2007, the University responded to another strong demand from students and industry leaders. They were requesting a degree designed for those interested in pursuing a strong theoretical foundation in psychology that can be applied to related fields such as sports psychology, pastoral counseling, life coaching, and trainers in business and industry. The University added:

   * Master of Science in Psychology (MS)

Based on the University’s commitment to provide high quality market driven undergraduate and graduate degree programs to adult learners throughout the world using distance learning methodologies, the University opted to limit new enrollments to the following degree programs.

   * Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies (AALS)
   * Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)

In June, 2007, the University applied for a change of name with the Bureau for Private, Postsecondary and Vocational Education from Southern California University for Professional Studies to California Southern University.

The launching of the new name, California Southern University (CalSouthern), embodies everything that SCUps has represented and has worked diligently to achieve over the last 30 years. When it comes to higher education, experience counts. The faculty provides students with hundreds of years of educational and professional experience. The Administration and the Board of Directors believe that this new name and look represents a renewed commitment to remaining at the forefront of educational innovation.
