HMS Ceylon

HMS Ceylon, is the name used by three ships of the British Royal Navy. They were named after the former British colony Ceylon, which is now Sri Lanka.

• The first HMS Ceylon (1808) was a 32 gun frigate launched as HCS Bombay, purchased by the Royal Navy in 1805, serving with them as HMS Bombay, renamed HMS Ceylon in 1808 and converted to a troopship in 1817, eventually being sold in 1875.
• The second HMS Ceylon (1916) was a private yacht requisitioned in 1915 and returned to her owners in 1916.
• The third HMS Ceylon (1943) was an 8000 ton displacement Crown Colony-class cruiser commissioned in 1943, which fought in the East Indies in World War II. After further service, she was sold to Peru in 1960 and renamed the Coronel Bolognesi until being decommissioned in 1982.
