Anniversaries
- Aaron Copeland born 14 November 1900
- Hi Bmills, as a rule we don't list births or deaths (accept assassinations or big anniversaries -- centenaries, etc). See Wikipedia:Selected Articles on the Main Page for more info. Tip: if you are keen to see something listed as an anniversary, your best bet is to make sure it is listed on the day page (ie, November 14 and that the article mentions the date in the text. --Viajero 15:04, 14 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Reference Desk categorization
Wikipedia:Reference Desk is not for those who want to write articles but for those who want Wikipedia to ask something. In other words, it's for readers and not editors. So why is it under the heading "Writing Articles"? -- Paddu 14:05 29 Jun 2003 (UTC)
- The above question was lost into the archives unanswered, so I'm posting it again. I feel there should at least be a link to Reference Desk in the `Encyclopedia' section. Readers who are looking for info. on something shouldn't have to look for `Reference Desk' in `Writing Articles'. Also I feel the same is true about the `Requested Articles' link. -- 210.214.131.219 06:12, 15 Nov 2003 (UTC) (Paddu)
WikiSource (again)
I think that WikiSource should be listed under "Syster Projects".
I already mentioned it but got no response. ^^ Dod1 06:44, 15 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Hm. I thought I answered this before... Anyway - "Wikisource" is not a Wikimedia project, therefore it is not a sister project. Wikisource is just an idea for a project. See meta:Project Sourceberg. Please don't confuse the few texts on the Pashtu Wikipedia to be a separate project. --mav 07:52, 15 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Thanks ^^ Dod1 02:46, 18 Nov 2003 (UTC)
Time
In regards to my This American Life entry for anniversaries...Why is a change made at "01:58, 17 Nov 2003" considered a November 16th change? In my book it is a November 17 change. Please advise. Kingturtle 03:55, 17 Nov 2003 (UTC)
Too wide
The "Community" column containing all the different language version is way too wide when viewed using Opera 7.21. This seems to be connected to the language entry between afrikaans and (araby). Would be nice if somebody fixed... Even Holen, 01:44, 18 Nov 2003 (GMT+1)

Acronyms
Is it wise to put a relatively unknown acronym like IBDA-C on the front page? I think it shoud either be spelled out in full, or qaulified as, perhaps, "IBDA-C (Turkish terrorist group)"Andy Mabbett 16:39, 21 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- And why should we support the aims of terrorists, by giving them the prominence and attention they crave? At most, just say Terrorism in Turkey. Why take a previously obscure terrorist group and give them free publicity? --Uncle Ed 21:28, 21 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- By the same token, why are offering offering free PR to a known pervert like Mr M Jackson, likewise someone who craves attention? Why don't we refer to him as the ex-black Santa Barbara child molester? -- Viajero 22:08, 21 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Yes, let's only write about nice people, fluffy little clouds and cuddly bunnies. Andy Mabbett 22:38, 21 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Andy, about your original query: you have a point. The problem is we have very little space; a string like "Turkish terrorist group" is waaay to long. In any event, lots of unfamiliar topics (to me at least) pass across the Main Page, and it is probably a good a mechanism as any to invite people to browse. As for the morality of listing the Turkish group there... I defer... except to say one person's terrorist is another's freedom fighter. -- Viajero 00:22, 22 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- [OT] I should point out that, in the interest of fairness, the above comment is both wrong and (to an extent) libelous, AFAICT - TTBOMK, Mr. Jackson has never been convicted in any court (other than that of public opinion) of abusing, sexually or otherwise, children.
- On the other hand, I agree with the argument being made, if not the examples used, so...

Off: HTML of Wikipedia
I realise that this isn't the place, but where can I discuss the quality of the HTML (in terns of its validity and accesibility) used in Wikipedia? Andy Mabbett 20:00, 21 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Anyone? Andy Mabbett 14:26, 22 Nov 2003 (UTC)

In the news
- November 26 = last ever flight by Concorde.
- "Political chaos grips Georgia", acording to the BBC... Andy Mabbett 19:18, 22 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- As described in detail in Wikipedia:Selected Articles on the Main Page, we customarily don't put links to articles on the Main Page unless they have been appropriately updated. There is nothing in Georgia about the current unrest. Ditto Concorde. If you or someone elses adds a line about the last flight of the Concorde on the 26th, we can at to Main. On the other hand, it was there for a week or two in October, when it made its last commercial flight, so perhaps there is not much point. HTH. -- Viajero 20:58, 22 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- "This will be the last ever flight by any Concorde, on 26 November 2003" has been on Concorde for some time. Andy Mabbett 00:41, 24 Nov 2003 (UTC)~
WikiSource
Now that Project Sourceberg exists, rather than being situated at the Pashto language Wikipedia, are there any objections to listing it on the main page as a sister project? Angela 01:02, 24 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Is Project Gutenberg closing down, then? Andy Mabbett 01:50, 24 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Not that I know of, but that's not part of Wikipedia. Angela 01:55, 24 Nov 2003 (UTC)
Ancient Egypt
I don't think Ancient Egypt is a very suitable article to have at New Articles on the Main Page. It's just a pointer to a lot of other articles. If you want something Egyptian, have a look at my Oxyrhynchus, which I'm rather pleased with. Adam 12:46, 24 Nov 2003 (UTC)
