Faial is a parish in the district of Santana in the Madeira Islands.

Demographics

The population of Faial in 2001 is 1,961, its density is 86.8/km² and the area is 22.6 km². It is located 21 km N of Funchal, 5 km W of Porto da Cruz, 15 km W of Machico and 39 km E of Porto Moniz.

Faial is the second largest parish in area, the largest parish and the second smallest parish and the third leastly populated in Santana.

Industries

The main industries are agriculture and fishing along with tourism. It is connected with a road linking to Santana and the western part of the island and another road down to Funchal. The Atlantic Ocean is to the north. The mountains are to the south. Penha de Águia is situated near Faial. Ribeira do Faial flows to the east of Faial forming a parish boundary with Ilha. Faial has two valleys. The panorama of Pico Ruive de Santana lies to the southwest.
