Interstate 605 (Washington)

East King County Freeway is a proposed, but uncertain[1], second bypass to Seattle, outside Interstate 405. First suggested in the early 1970's, speculative plans for what some have dubbed "Interstate 605" (or I-605) have varied in their scope and design.[2]
While most proposals define the East King County Freeway as simply an outer beltway running through the vicinity of North Bend and Monroe, alternative proposals have placed as far out as east of the Cascade Range.[3] A 2002 proposal would have had the bypass stretch to the Candaian border, a proposal reject by environmentalists and anti-sprawl activists.[2] Some proposals also have provisions for the road to be tolled.
Currently the Washington State Department of Transportation is widening SR 18 between Auburn and Interstate 90 from a two-lane highway to a four-lane limited access freeway. Three-fourths of the project is completed, with the final stretch to I-90 still to be constructed. SR 18, once completed, could, but not necessarily, become signed as I-605.[4][5]
