Samantha Ronson

Samantha Ronson (born 1977) is an American DJ/rock singer and celebrity.

Biography

Personal life

Ronson was born in London, England, the daughter of writer-socialite Ann Dexter-Jones and former band manager Laurence Ronson. Her parents are of Ashkenazi Jewish descent, with ancestors from Russia, Lithuania and Austria, and she was raised in Conservative Judaism.[1][2] Ronson is related to politicians Malcolm Rifkind and Leon Brittan,[3] and is the sister of music producer Mark Ronson and fashion designer Charlotte Ronson.[4] After her parents broke up, her mother married Foreigner guitarist, Mick Jones, which contributed to her having a childhood surrounded by music.[5][6]

Career

In 2000, Ronson spun live for MTV New Year's Eve 2001's show from the network's studios in New York Times Square.[7] In 2002, it was announced Duncan Sheik would be co-producing an album for Ronson that would be out in the spring[8], and in 2004 Ronson was awarded the "distinguished honor" of being the first rock act signed to Roc-A-Fella Records.[9]. She released four songs under the label: "Pull My Hair Out", "Fool", "If It's Gonna Rain" and "Built This Way," and wrote and recorded her first album, "RED." "Built This Way" was featured in the movie "Mean Girls" starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams[10] but "RED" was never officially released, though song downloads were made available from her MySpace page. Ronson has also made a number of appearances on mix tapes produced by artists signed to the Roc-A-Fella label, and is co-owner of the New York City nightclub The Plumm, along with actor Chris Noth, David Wells and Noel Ashman, among others. In a January 2008 interview with MTV News, it was revealed Ronson had parted ways with her label and is currently focusing on DJing.[11]
