Hi, This is just my talk page, feel free to leave any advice on my edits or ask for help on anything. If you feel I've abused my administrative powers, please see User:MBisanz/Recall for further instructions.

Got that script for you

Here's the instructions for running it:

It'll spit out two files: list1.txt will be the difference between Category:Fair use images and Category:All non-free media; list2.txt will be the intersection between Category:All non-free media and Category:Free images. You'll probably need to open those text files in Firefox instead of your text editor. Hope this helps! east.718 at 22:39, March 26, 2008

My bad, the correct link to pywikipedia is this (pywikiparser is useless for you). You should uninstall everything and start over. east.718 at 03:41, March 27, 2008
pywikipedia and the zip file I emailed you both need to be in the same directory as Python. They have to be in C:\Python25, not C:\Python25\pywikipedia. east.718 at 04:00, March 27, 2008
Yeah, those non-standard characters are going to cause hell on a Windows system. If you want to run it error-free, open up imagebot.py in notepad and remove the line that says "print page.titleWithoutNamespace()". The downside is that you won't know what's going on when you actually run it though. east.718 at 20:17, March 27, 2008
It'll save the text files in your python directory. Also, 100 hours seems really excessive for a runtime, especially if you're still on Category:Fair use images. Scripts like this are really bad at crunching large amounts of data compared to relational databases - I have a feeling that it's using up all your computer's resources. But if you really want to see this through to the end... east.718 at 18:47, April 3, 2008

"Certain Other Editors"

MB,
I noted your question on SqueakBox's page and figured that I was "certain other editors". I was only "eager" to vote opposite because, as I would support the RFA, it seemed as though SqueakBox's jumping-the-gun needed some balance. It might have been a little POINT-y, literally copying the words and formatting and all, but that was the point of the point. How could it "look" like it was live? I went to the main RfA page and his was not listed. I agree with the others that Squeak had to be watching or stalking for this so as to attack it at its earliest possibility. His "oppose" was two minutes - TWO MINUTES - after the "I accept" was put on the page, and as has been point out, long before it was officially live.
Anyway, I have seen him in discussions and don't always agree with him, but I support the RfA. As for off-wiki happenings, that's part of the problem with having them... it strengthens the "secret society" feeling that a lot of people seem to have (from the oft-made references to "The Cabal" - something I have never made reference to).
FWIW, I have nothing against you. I have worked hard in the past to work with SqueakBox as well, even making consessions to try and smooth things over. For my trouble, I have been blocked for making general statements while enduring pointedly direct, targeted personal attacks. Anyway, I deal. I'm working on being less WikiDragon-ish and to stay out of WikiPolitics (at least not be involved as much as I have - less WikiStress).
I know that doesn't help understand why SB voted oppose, but now you understand why I voted in support when I did... I support the RfA, though, because I have confidence in Martijn and his ability. For the record. VigilancePrime 03:07 (UTC) 27 Mar '08 :-)
Thanks for the note. I would point out that, in spite of "exact polar opposites in every situation ", SqueakBox and I have actually agreed once or twice before. Usually because I made a HUGE point about agreeing with him. I don't think he's ever said "I agree with VP". Ah well. We're not that much different in the grand scheme of things. We just have different views on neutrality versus populartrality. And I don't recall any reason or instance that would make me have any beef with you either. I do know we've disagreed in terms of scope or degree, but generally even then it's only scope or degree, and not the master, core issue. As I recall, at least.
Have a great day/night/whatever! VigilancePrime 03:35 (UTC) 27 Mar '08 :-)

RfA Thanks

Re: Revert script

See this. Save it in C:\Python25 under any name and run it - and you will need a logged-in sysop account to do this one. east.718 at 17:37, April 1, 2008

Hi Matt. Since I have been off-wiki for a while, I guess this may have been addressed. In {{Calm talk}} there was a hidden comment right in the template advising that all interwiki links should be placed in /doc. AkhtaBot was placing interwikis in a place the comment advised against. There are template experts who could advise you better than me, for instance the gang at WP:VPT.EdJohnston (talk) 19:26, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Another wrinkle is that only AkhtaBot's *template* edits need to be fixed, from what I have seen. In a very cursory check I didn't see any problem with AkhtaBot's article edits. EdJohnston (talk) 19:44, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There were fewer than 250 template edits (I think) and the ones I looked at have all been reverted, including a few that didn't need to be :-) EdJohnston (talk) 21:08, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

For this. Seems admins are using the template on AIV, too :) Steve Crossin (talk to me) 18:18, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Please use + on top of the discussion page to start a new section. This edit not only has incorrect summary, but also caused an edit conflict with my edit, and I suspect this wouldn't happen if you used +, although of course I could be wrong. —AlexSm 19:35, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AIV

I'll tell you one thing. April Fools is over, and I am glad. Now we can actually get back to work, without having to deal with reports like these. I wasn't impressed either, I messaged them too [1]. Jokes are all good and well, but AIV is not an apropriate place to to so. And people reporting themselves? I'd have continued on with the "joke", and blocked them for half an hour. For disrupting AIV. I got cranky at them, too. [2]. And the admin who told them to do it as well, I had a word with him. [3]. And, reports like [4] these, get under my skin. AIV still gets legit reports, no matter what day it is. It's no place for jokes. Steve Crossin (talk to me) 03:04, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's very kind of you. It was true, however, that I do not interact with other users a lot. I'm not really sure how to fix that--I contribute profusely in many different ways, but I hardly ever have anything productive to say, really. I'll have to look at someone else's contributions for examples.--MrFishGo Fish 04:02, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replied on my talk page, to keep it in one place! Pedro :  Chat  07:14, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Two different checkusers confirmed that he'd been using accounts abusively at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Gregs the baker. He's already been told this at least three times, both in the unblock replies and while he was emailing me (until I asked him to stop because I'd already declined two unblocks and didn't need to do any more). He's also been told three times now to take the matter to ArbCom (me, you, you again) if he wants to get unblocked, but as he (in my view) refuses to see why what he did was wrong, and he has two checkusers against him, I highly doubt even that's going to get anywhere. I'm not unblocking him, nor do I support unblocking him; but as I've been overly involved already, I'm not going to tell you not to either. It looks like you've already made your decision, but just in case, that's my view on things. Thanks. Hersfold (t/a/c) 16:09, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there - I've marked the above case as closed. The two socks have been indef blocked, and I can't see any merit in blocking Gooddays (who has come off his block but neither edited generally, nor commented specifically on the SSP case). PD-textlogo question

Hi, could I get your opinion on an image? I have been reviewing the logos of a few musical groups to see if some would qualify to be filed under {{PD-textlogo}} rather than fair use and I am a bit at a loss in regard to this one. It appears to be a simple enough typeface/geometry combination though not quite as simple as the logos of, say, ABBA or Nine Inch Nails. – Cyrus XIII (talk) 17:54, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting a nonvandal edit

I was monitoring some IRC channels and i came upon this [7] Clearly it was not vandalism as the user was trying to help getting rid of some nonsense. I have reverted your edit and would ask you to look again at what you are reverting next time. Thanks ~ LegoKontribsTalkM 05:44, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think that user blanking numerous talk pages is problematic, regardless of whether it's removing nonsense or not. Enigma msg 03:52, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
True, but I did revert and edit that was not vandalism, and that is something I should not do. Two wrongs don't make a right. MBisanz talk 06:18, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No doubt. It's similar to something that happened a few weeks ago. I reverted and warned for something, but reverting and warning was not the proper step in that case. The user I reverted wasn't doing things properly either. I was just commenting that if you look at the user in question's contributions, you'll see a marked pattern. Re:

That "Linking to external harassment" thing is bogus, and not policy. If the user wants to be hidden from criticism of this site, they should not be on the internet. Furthermore, although when I browsed the main site, there were some posts that were unfavorable (like some of the identifying people posts), but the viewers should be able to decide what is "harassing" for them or not. As for the reliable sources thing, I consider Kohs' research to be reliable, but if you don't, discussions, not warnings, should help. You also seem to be biased towards the linking to external evil monsters' sites guideline, because you cite what is not policy and imply that it is such. --User:Iambus | talk 08:28, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Closed FPC

No problem! Really, though, this shouldn't be a turn-off or anything. It certainly wasn't a bad idea—it's a nice picture that didn't quite meet the technical standards. Stick around FPC and see what voters like and don't like, and certainly don't hesitate to make another nomination if you see a picture that you think deserves featured status. If you're concerned about the eligability of a picture, check out picture peer review and someone can give you a go-ahead before you nominate. Thegreenj 17:59, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Thanks for the welcome you sent my way after I made the Canada Cup of Soccer page.

Re: Adminship

This is in reply to what you posted on my talk page about the RfA. Since you've been involved with the Admin coaching program, would you recommend I get an admin coach first? I'm currently under Editor Review and I do chat with admins when I have questions about matters, but perhaps entering the program would be beneficial? I'd like to hear your thoughts about my specific situation. Thanks for taking an interest, Enigma message Review 02:57, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ouch. I just looked at the requests page, and it's horribly backlogged. It appears there aren't nearly enough coaches to match demand. A bit unfortunate, because some of the cases look nowhere near close to passing an RfA, but many people wish to become admins. This isn't likely to change anytime soon, either. :) Enigma message Review 03:00, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I understand. As one of the main participants, you've got as many as you can handle, and I'm sure the same can be said for the other major admin coaches. One thing I want to point out is that you changed your stance. You first said sure-fire pass in 2 weeks or so, given some AFCs (I started that tonight). Then you said 1.5-2 months. Personally, I lean towards the latter approach. It's hard to project RfAs, but I couldn't see myself passing in the next few weeks. I hope to get at least one article to DYK. I have a few ideas in mind for that. As always, any thoughts are appreciated. Enigma message Review 03:17, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've heard many times on RfAs that the standards are much more rigorous now than they were say, a year or two ago. I was also reading the discussion on the RfA talk page. However, I don't see things getting any easier. I suppose I'll leave the timing issue to those who have a better handle on it than I. Enigma message Review 03:38, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look at my !vote, in the Support section. I was leaning towards oppose or neutral, but I decided to support, their other contribs outweighs their answer to Q13. And one of my disputes has taken a nasty turn, one editor was blocked for 12 hours for gross incivility [8] and my response. It's not unreasonable, is it? I confirm that my freenode nick is MBisanz

Interesting place to confirm that. :) Enigma message Review 16:17, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PIO again

Mate, you're probably already aware of this but it's getting a little heated between Guy0307 and PIO over at PIO's alternate talk page. Check the diffs [9], especially Guy's latest contribution. PIO keeps deleting whatever Guy writes, causing Guy to write something stronger, so I don't know if it might be worth protecting the page? PIO e-mailed Arbcom Friday trying to get himself unbanned as Jxy. Are we still awaiting a result on that? Is that why he can still edit the page? Many thanks, AlasdairGreen27 (talk) 06:44, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He's unbelieveable. Six other projects plus a threat at Meta? Not normal. Anyway, no doubt he'll be back here under some new name sometime soon. Many thanks for your time, AlasdairGreen27 (talk) 07:35, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Rationale

Hi, I uploaded this image but i'm not sure how to fill out the licensing and fair-use rationale, could you help me out with it ? I want to use it to show how The Chronic's album cover was a homage to Zig-Zag rolling papers. Thanks. - Guerilla In Tha Mist (talk) 15:04, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks man. - Guerilla In Tha Mist (talk) 16:08, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NPW

Any chance you can look at my request? It's been sitting there quite a while, apparently ignored. Someone who applied after me got approved immediately. Enigma message Review 18:56, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Get Huggle? I've been using it for weeks! See the WP:HUG talk page. I applied for NPW because you recommended it. Now that I think of it, I have marked a few as speedy on Huggle (ones where the original editor blanked the page). The reason I asked you was because it said any admin could approve, and you were the one that recommended it in the first place. Enigma message Review 19:07, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to dump it on you, but good job reviewing the requests. It's appreciated. Enigma message Review 19:19, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi.

You just rejected me for VP. This is the second time in only one application that I got rejected. Two things: 1. Don't bother apologizing about saying know twice. It's O. K. 2. The first time I got rejected, it was said I needed 250 mainspace edits. When you said no just now, I was told I needed 500. Which is it? Me what do u want? Your Hancock Please 19:33, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. You're a good person. And feel free to take it away at anytime.Me what do u want? Your Hancock Please 19:41, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. It's me again. I'm trying to use it but I can't, for example, mark something as patrolled. It says that I need to log in. On the little screen on the bottom, I put in my name and password and then press "Log in." But it doesn't do anything, so I can't log in. What should I do? Thanks. Me what do u want? Your Hancock Please 20:00, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh. Sorry. I just realized that you said VP and NPW we're different. Or that I got rejected for different things. But I don't think I'll use NPW very often. TW and Special:Newpages work fine. Thanks and sorry. Me what do u want? Your Hancock Please 20:17, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gooddays 2

Good question. The 48 hour blocked ended yesterday - I guess we just see how it goes after they come back. The proof of the pudding, and all that...! GBT/C 20:36, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Hi, and thanks for the kind words! I have never proposed any policies before, so I don't know all the normal procedures for making people aware of it. So far I have posted on WT:OPTOUT, WP:VPP and Template:Cent, but if you know of other ways to bring about attention, that would be appreciated. Sjakkalle (Check!) 07:38, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since you have a slight history with this address I figured I'd start here (if that is inappropriate, please let me know). Whatever users are behind that address are at it again. This is the 6th time they have been warned this month. Padillah (talk) 15:33, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
