This page helps responsible users to prevent vandalism from taking place. List a contributor by IP or username, if they have vandalized the Wikipedia.

Note: Please add new alerts at the top of the "Current alerts" list.

Two levels of urgency

If you want to alert everyone, leave the "minor edit" option unchecked. Be careful: this is the default.

If the listing doesn't require a immediate response, please be sure to check the "minor edit" option.

Format

You can use the format under the Current Alerts heading: IP address, pages touched, damage done. For a more comprehensive guide for dealing with different types of vandalism, see Dealing with vandalism.

Blocks and other tools

For a list of currently blocked IPs and usernames and the reason why they were blocked, visit: Special:Ipblocklist. Tools for finding information on an IP number:

Cautions and alternatives

However, please do not label isolated instances of text deletions, replacements or odd additions as VANDALISM unless they seem intentionally overly lewd or offensive. More often than not, this is just a visitor to the site experimenting with how to use it (also see newbie test) -- labeling them as a VANDAL is a sure way of ensuring they will not become contributors. Only add alerts to this page of true VANDALISM such as a systematic attack on several articles. Above all, please be polite at first and give the person the benefit of the doubt until they prove they deserve otherwise.

If you need help or think someone else does, please leave a note at Wikipedia:clueless newbies.

Please note that deliberate vandalism of this page is likely to lead to you being blocked from editing Wikipedia.

If you disagree with someone's edits, please see the following pages:

Appears to be vandalizing Al Gore. Seth Ilys 04:29, 30 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Has now created the User:ChrisDJackson account, but continues to vandalize Al Gore. RickK 04:11, 1 Jan 2004 (UTC)
Now messing with Clinton-Gore Administration, formerly Clinton administration. - Seth Ilys 00:19, 2 Jan 2004 (UTC)
Much of Clinton-Gore Administration is copied from http://www.americanhistory.or.kr/book/files/ethirteen07.html. But I'm tired of not getting any support in my battle with this guy (hear that, Jiang?), and have given Chris full support to wage his POV war. RickK 00:23, 2 Jan 2004 (UTC)
I think part of his website [1] sheds light on why he might be having problems writing neutrally. Maximus Rex 00:26, 2 Jan 2004 (UTC)
He seems to be generally well-meaning, just writing with a *very* strong POV. - Seth Ilys 00:34, 2 Jan 2004 (UTC)
Please, someone with the proper counselling skills tell this guy to stay away from the Al Gore article and any related subjects. This is more of POV over-enthusiasim than vandalism. Make Clinton-Gore Administration into a redirect to bill Clinton, like Clinton Administration is. --Jiang 09:00, 2 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Adding large and eccentric bodies of text to various pages. -- The Anome 10:39, 23 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Adding the following to User:Jimbo Wales: "MORE LIKE BIMBO PALES, AS IN PALES OF SAND BECAUSE HE EATS IT" - this was one unfriendly dude, man! He also couldn't spell. I'm not this dude's side, man."

The rest of his edits are non-encylopedic additions to Penthouse and others. Secretlondon 23:55, Dec 22, 2003 (UTC)

I find it especially interesting that he should start on that page. This suggests he is a re-incarnation. Morwen 23:56, Dec 22, 2003 (UTC)
He also left the followng here: "HEY, I JUST STARTED HERE! AND I'M QUITTING. THIS SITE SUCKS. JUST LIKE MORWEN. I DID NOT WRITE THAT ORIGINAL MESSAGE TO JIMBO AND DID NOT EXPECT THIS LEVEL OF CRAP. RABASTAN". Sic transit gloria wikipedia. -- Finlay McWalter 01:31, 23 Dec 2003 (UTC)

66.2.156.38

User:66.2.156.38 is vandalizing pages associated with the topics pantheism, pseudo-pantheism, and cosmotheism, adding repetitive NPOV rubbish and undoing reverts. He blanked Talk:pantheism entirely and continues to make nuisance edits. He is a well-known nuisance at other internet sites, having been banned from dozens of bullectin boards for this sort of conduct.

I also noticed his vandalism of Talk:pantheism, and found it unhelpful. Jack 01:05, 22 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Keeps adding rubbish and POV to holocaust. Secretlondon 21:02, Dec 21, 2003 (UTC) User:S v romanov is continuing. A new user - maybe only created for this purpose? Secretlondon 21:58, Dec 21, 2003 (UTC)

Different, I think. The latest edit to Holocaut looks sane enough - and the only reason I was reverting romanov before was because they weren't Wikipedia:Integrate_changes:integrating changes. Morwen 22:00, Dec 21, 2003 (UTC)

Keeps adding "a hobby for middle-class women, who have plenty of spare time since abandoning traditional activities like sewing and cooking." to Feminism, despite being told not to.

May want to count in User:195.92.168.172 - seem to work in tandem or something. They don't seem to quite get NPOV. Dysprosia 14:43, 21 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Vandalised Biology by adding nonsense. Could someone please revert the page? I am not sure what the procedures for "reverting" a page are. Peak 20:53, 20 Dec 2003 (UTC)

I wouldn't class that as vandalism. Newbieism maybe. See Wikipedia:revert for instructions on reverting. Basically, just go to the page history, click on an older version, click edit, click save. Angela. 21:02, 20 Dec 2003 (UTC)

New Age

I can't revert New Age back very easily. Someone cut half of the article out while editing. BF 06:20, 20 Dec 2003 (UTC)

  • This is likely to have been accidental rather than vandalism, but I've reverted now. What you need to do if edits have been made since the vandalism occurred is revert to the last good version, and then add in whatever changes were made since that version that you want to keep. Addendum: He (?) seems to have a real problem with Joseph H. Greenberg, and is destroying all references to him or altering his name to an unwikified "J. Greenberg". I've also been looking at other edits in the 145.254 range, and so far have had to fix eighteen articles in all from two editing sprees (the first a week ago). Also, he vandalized several redirects, most fixed by others. He has also made many edits to List of Islamic terms in Arabic whose accuracy I can't verify. -- VV 02:42, 14 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Removing a lot of "accuracy dispute" boilerplate with edit summaries calling the reader a bastard and worse. I blocked one and another sysop did as well but the anon seemed to keep switching. Someone suggested it's Michael...who knows? Keep your eye out, though. Jwrosenzweig 00:32, 11 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Now I've blocked three IPs, all in this range. Pakaran left a warning note at one of the IPs talk pages, but all the evidence suggests to me that Michael is bored today and has decided once again to grace us with his presence. Jwrosenzweig 00:37, 11 Dec 2003 (UTC)

81.106.216.149

81.106.216.149 Just blanked some pages they created where the subject was mainly "gay gay gay" or variations thereupon. Francs2000 17:42, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)

  • That was me, I do apoligise. It was a 'newbie test' as I have now found out the real term is. I couldn't quite believe that anyone has the power to change anything they want! Anyway, I thought I had deleted them all? I did a few, then went back and deleted each one. Must have missed a couple sorry.
  • Please use the Wikipedia:Sandbox to practise in, and don't add content to individual articles unless it's relevant. I hardly feel that writing "gay gay gay gay gay" is appropriate practise material, do you? Francs2000 20:59, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Thanks, I just found a testing page I had a play around in. Also I couldn't think what else to write, that was the first thing that came to mind. To be honest when I chose to write that I didn't believe that it would actually update the site. When I realised it really was real, that's when I began deleting all my entries.
    • Note - this is EXACTLY why anonymous users should only have read-only access. Random users simply cannot believe they have the power to change stuff, so can cause problems unintentionally. Taking away this ability would cut vandalism significantly without taking away the "right" to edit - people don't expect that right so why hand it on a plate? I discussed this recently on the village pump, despite some support and other ideas, no action has been taken. How do we get stuff to ACTUALLY HAPPEN? Graham 22:50, 16 Dec 2003 (UTC)
      • Let's not be too hasty. I had similar feelings until I saw this from snoyes, [User:snoyes#Stats_on_anon_editors], which pretty much debunks the theory that anons are all around "bad things." Do we really want to abandon our single most greatest marketing feature (edit any page now) so quickly? Fuzheado 23:09, 16 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Agree that it needs some serious discussion before action, as long as it is discussed, and any consensus is acted upon. This definitely doesn't seem the place to do it. Perhaps this is? Incidentally, one glance down this very page will show the casual anon vandalism I'm talking about - there is hardly a single alert against a named user. This particular incident is unusual - the person concerned has been honest enough to own up and explain himself, and in so doing confirmed a feeling I have about why casual vandalism occurs. Kudos to that guy - I'm sure he'll make a fine contributor once he signs on.Graham 23:35, 16 Dec 2003 (UTC)

No contribs for 20 minutes now. If the user continues, he has been warned, and post here or any of our talk pages, and he will very likely be blocked. Pakaran 03:29, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Sorry, yes it is 67.82.176.6. His/her contributions over the past few months have been all vandalism. A warning won't do any good as this is not a newcomer. --Zero 03:43, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)

On the other hand, no need to block the user until he/she actually edits. As a new admin, I'm erring on the side of caution. Pakaran 03:45, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Pakaran is doing the right thing in my opinion. If he blocks this IP and a legit user is on the same IP, they are adversely affected. If the bad user comes back, a revert and a block is enough. Dysprosia 03:48, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)

CGd & 139.140.126.134

User:CGd has committed repeated vandalism by creating and editing articles meant to defame. He seems to be acting together with 139.140.126.134 in some sort of tag-team. They've also vandalised at least two user's userpage. Hadal 10:42, 8 Dec 2003 (UTC)

  • I think some sort of stronger measure is needed. Most of the contributions of this user seem to be just removing valid content from articles and vandalizing others' user pages. Dysprosia 10:48, 8 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • You can add 66.183.250.8 to the list. I'd ban them myself, but.. I'm not an admin. Hadal 10:52, 8 Dec 2003 (UTC)
      • That's okay, I think I'm going to do so. Minesweeper beat me to it :) Dysprosia 10:52, 8 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • I banned the user name because s/he simply would not stop. However, banning usernames is the last thing I want to do here, and I'm not sure how long the user ban should last. So, anyone with more "experience" with such matters should feel free to step in. --Minesweeper 11:42, 8 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • I was a little cautious since CGd was sort of on the border between simple vandalism at first, but with this stupid vandalism of user pages, I would have done exactly what you would have done. Dysprosia 11:45, 8 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • I've unblocked the account, because I don't think we can permanently block users without some sort of decision from either Jimbo or perhaps the new arbitration committee, especially since CGd has done some stuff other than simple vandalism. I don't disagree with a temporary unilateral block to stop his vandalism streak though. --Delirium 04:11, Dec 9, 2003 (UTC)

Mr-Natural-Health

User:Mr-Natural-Health has admitted that he will vandalize our website even if banned. Although many Wikipedia users have privately contacted him over the last few days (see his User page), he has ignored them all, and has publicly threatened to change his IP address on a regular basis in order to avoid a ban. This is a public admission of intent to committ vandalism on a regular basis. RK 18:48, Dec 7, 2003 (UTC)

Mr-Natural-Health has just attacked me on my User page, and has claimed to be a Nazi. He is totally out of control. Can some please ban him, please?

66.183.250.8 or CGd

66.183.250.8 who appears to be to be the same person as CGd is repeatedly removing all reference to the Orthodox Baha'i Faith from the various Baha'i related pages. This subject continues to be a source of some controversy, but the concensus was that they should NOT be deleted. Rick Boatright 9:44 Dec 3, 2003 (CST)

24.66.94.140 appears to be the same as the users mentioned above and has resumed the vandalism. UtherSRG 06:13, 13 Dec 2003 (UTC)

137.94.11.222 / 205.189.49.40

is consistently vandalising Indian independence movement and Subash Chandra Bose with his PoV. The user seems to be ignorant of the usage of his/the article's talk page, and never reads the edit summaries. He has not responded to any request to consider rephrasing or properly substantiating his claims.

He sometimes blanks the article page to post his comments and has consistently in the past used (and has been warned for using) copyrighted material for presenting his case. A case in point is his repeated insistence in adding Swami Vivekananda to the list of Indian freedom leaders, and his blanking the contents of Subash Chandra Bose in the past (Without any substantial evidence, that would at least make it a NPOV dispute and could be dealt with)

There seems to be no way we can communicate to this user and reach a compromise. The user has not made any other worthwhile contribution to wikipedia. I advocate banning this user's IP address. chance 09:15, Dec 3, 2003 (UTC)

  • A consistent vandal, comes back almost everyday to make the same changes. Also has used the IP 205.189.49.40 . Has been vandalising regularly since 17 Nov, the latest being 5 Dec. Is exploring and moving on to newer pages. Jay 22:10, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)
      • I see 4 acts of vandalism over 24 hours - how does this "require immediate blocking?" -- Pakaran 08:26, 7 Dec 2003 (UTC)
        • I don't know. But, 137. shows no signs of tiring. He may not be a vandal who believes in blitzkrieg attacks, but as can be seen from his yesterday's edit in the Indian independence movement page he is madly persistent - saying the same things all over again, and my, what a nauseating plagiarist he is! This fellow cannot even bring himself up to defend what he says, with a few words of his own. I am sick of this attitude. I bet he is waiting for us to tire of him, and let him do all he wants, however stupid that may sound. If this is not persistent vandalism, what is? Something has to be done about this. Maybe a protection request for the pages, and not allow others edit? To protect the articles from one single person? chance 08:44, Dec 11, 2003 (UTC)
        • 137's contribution for 9th Dec was the vandalising of Mahatma Gandhi. Protection of pages won't help as there's no dearth of articles for him to play with. Maybe ban the two IPs and check if he comes up with new ones. Jay 09:12, 11 Dec 2003 (UTC)
      • The requests of non-anonymous users who have clearly been investing a lot of time undoing the damage of an anonymous user should be honored as soon as possible. Peak 08:48, 7 Dec 2003 (UTC)
      • 137's at it again (on Indian independence movement! Grrrr. The 137.* address is registered to Royal Military College, Ontario, so we'll have to keep an eye out for Good Guys who get banned too. The other address is an ISP. Could someone please block this guy? Gaurav 17:47, 11 Dec 2003 (UTC)
      • And.... (Is it me who is getting annoyingly repetitive :-) ? )... again on Dec 12 in the articles, Indian independence movement and Swami Vivekananda. Seriously, when does a user get banned? How more serious should it be than this? One user who has done nothing to wikipedia for the last one month, except defacing the same set of articles still lurks around, quite freely. Vandalised Limericks (poetry) with some unpleasant language, obviously deliberate. PMC 23:39, 17 Dec 2003 (UTC)

There is not such a page, nor has there been such a page deleted in the past week. Pakaran 23:41, 17 Dec 2003 (UTC)
