Beth Rowley

Beth Rowley (born October, 1981) is an English singer-songwriter born in Lima, Peru. She was born to British parents who later returned from Peru to live in Bristol, England when Beth was aged two years old.

Career

Early career

She was influenced by her family's love for many different musical styles, particularly blues, country, folk, gospel and latin american music. When aged 16, Beth formed The Apogee, an original 5 piece funk/soul/acid jazz group. At age 17 she was spotted at an open mic night in London's top entertainment club, Ginglik.

Beth studied music and art at Weston-super-Mare College and later went on to the Brighton Institute of Modern Music with the particular help and encouragement of soul singer Carleen Anderson. During her time at the school, Beth toured with Ronan Keating and Enrique Iglesias singing backing vocals.

2004-present

Beth has developed a close relationship with Jazz saxophonist Ben Castle (son of Roy), well known for his work with Jamie Cullum. With Ben's encouragement and assistance Beth has released three EPs to date, Beth Rowley (2004), Sweet Hours (2006) and Violets (2007). Beth has now been signed by the Blue Thumb label a part of the Universal Music Group.

Beth has collaborated with other artists and bands over the past year, including Crowded House on their Time on Earth album providing backing vocals for the song "Transit Lounge" and Duke Special, who joined her for a duet on her forthcoming album, Little Dreamer.

Beth Rowley has an album entitled "Little Dreamer" due out on the 26th May 2008. On 4th February 2008 the lead single, "Oh My Life" from the forthcoming album was featured as 'BBC Radio 2 Record of the Week' [1]."Oh My Life" was released on 3rd March 2008.

Touring

Beth has supported various artists on tour including Tom Baxter, David Gray and Duke Special. In March 2008 Beth preformed at the Play.com Live event inside Wembley Stadium, London. On Friday 4 April 2008 Beth appeared on BBC Radio 2's 'Friday Night is Music Night' performing two tracks with the BBC Concert Orchestra at the Mermaid Theatre, London. She has also made guest appearances on 'Top of the Pops', 'Parkinson' and 'This Morning'. Beth will be touring for her forthcoming album in the UK during May and June 2008. [2]
