Background
The main feud heading into Taboo Tuesday was between John Cena, Kurt Angle, and Shawn Michaels with the three feuding over the WWE Championship. At SummerSlam, Cena defeated Chris Jericho to retain the WWE Championship.[5] The night on RAW, Cena faced Jericho in a "You're fired match" for the WWE Championship, in which the loser would be kayfabe fired. Cena won the match after pinning Jericho after an FU to win the match and retain the WWE Championship. Per the pre-match stipulation, Jericho was fired.[6] Shortly after the match ended, Kurt Angle, come out from the crowd and attacked Cena.[6] At the previous RAW brand pay-per-view, Unforgiven, Cena retained the WWE Championship by disqulification, after hitting Angle in the head with the WWE Championship.[7]
Another main fued heading into Taboo Tuesday was between Ric Flair and Triple H. At Vengeance, Triple H lost a Hell in a Cell match between Batista. Following Vengeance, Triple H took some time off, to recover from his injuries that he suffered at Vengeance. When Triple H come back, Flair was in a fued with Chris Masters and Carlito. Then Eric Bischoff made a match with Triple H teaming up with Ric Flair to face, Masters and Carlito. Flair and Triple H won the match after Triple H pinned Carlito after a Pedigree. After the match Triple H hugged Flair and then hit Flair in the head with a sledgehammer. Then Triple H hit Flair into a white limosuine, which then escorted Flair out of the building.[8]
