January
- January 29 - Face to Face announce on their official website that they would be reuniting for select shows in the US and internationally.[1]
- Rage Against the Machine headlined the Big Day Out festivals in Australia and New Zealand, their first shows outside of the United States since reforming, and their first Australian shows in 12 years.
- Pop singer Britney Spears is hospitalized after reportedly going without sleep for five days. She is placed under a 5150 Involuntary psychiatric hold at the UCLA Medical Center in California. A restraining order would later be issued against her friend Sam Lutfi after Spears' mother Lynne accused him of drugging her daughter.
February
- February 10 - The 50th Grammy Awards took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
- February 15 - Irish National Music Awards was held in Dublin.
- February 19 - Guitarist Daron Malakian told MTV.com that System of a Down will likely never reform, as he is concentrating with his new project Scars on Broadway.[2]
- February 20 - The 28th BRIT Awards was held in London.
- February 20-25 - The annual Viña del Mar International Song Festival was held in Chile. It was headlined by Nelly Furtado, Calle 13 and Wisin & Yandel.[3]
- February 23 to March 3 - The second annual Soundwave Festival was held in Australia, headlined by The Offspring and Incubus.[4]

- March 2 - Blind musician and actor Jeff Healey dies of cancer.
- March 2 - Marilyn Manson's world tour, Rape of the World, came to an end.
- March 7 - The Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival 2008 occurred in Jakarta, Indonesia.[5]
- March 7-16 - The 2008 South By Southwest[6] Conference and Festivals in Austin, Texas.
- March 20 - The new Eagles tour to support their latest album, Long Road Out of Eden, begins.
- March 25-29 - The Miami Winter Music Conference[7] was held in Miami Beach Resort & Spa, Miami, Florida, USA
- March 26th - Clint Lowery returns and replaces Sonny Mayo in Sevendust.
- March 27 - British sensation Leona Lewis tops the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 with her debut single "Bleeding Love". Lewis becomes the first solo British female to rule over the USA since Kim Wilde in 1987.
- March 27 - Def Leppard begins the first leg of their world tour in support of their latest album Songs from the Sparkle Lounge.
- March 28 - Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash hinted in an interview with Classic Rock magazine that their singer Scott Weiland would be out of the band at the end of the current tour, but that they would continue without him.[8]
April
- April 1 - Scott Weiland's departure from Velvet Revolver becomes official,[9] although it is not clear whether the band will continue without Weiland as no official statement from Weiland or the remaining Velvet Revolver members has been issued. Weiland's reunion with his former band Stone Temple Pilots and tensions between Weiland and the rest of VR led to his departure.
- April 2 - Mariah Carey's new single, "Touch My Body", from her upcoming album E=MC², is officially confirmed as her eighteenth number-one single in the United States. This feat makes Carey the artist with second most number-one hit singles in history, behind the Beatles with twenty.
- April 2 - Madonna's new single, "4 Minutes", from her upcoming album Hard Candy, is officially confirmed as her thirty-seventh top-ten single in the United States. This feat makes Madonna the artist with the most top-ten hit singles in history. Hard Candy marked the last studio album under Madonna's long-time contract with both Warner Bros. Records and Warner Music
- April 5 - The reunited Face to Face perform together for the first time in four-and-a-half-years at The Bamboozle Left.[1]
- April 7 - The newly reunited 90s rock band Stone Temple Pilots hold a press conference announcing a 65-date reunion tour and play for the first time since 2002 at a small, private show in Los Angeles.
- April 17 - Leona Lewis continues her success in North America by reaching number one on the Billboard 200, with Spirit selling around 205,000 copies in its first week on sale. Lewis becomes the first British woman to go straight to the top the album charts with a debut album.
- April 19-20 - The Festival Imperial 2008 will be held in Autódromo La Guácima in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
- April 19 - Donna Summer became the first artist to have a song reach number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in every decade since the charts' inception in 1974, as "I'm a Fire" ascends to the chart's top spot in the magazine's April 19th issue.
- April 26 - The MTV Australia Awards 2008 took place in Sydney, Australia.
- April 25-27 - The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was held in Indio, California.

- June 1 - Westlife will play their 10th anniversary concert at Europe's fourth biggest stadium, Croke Park.
- June 10 - Rancid will begin the first leg of their tour in support of their upcoming sixth studio album.[10]
- June 12 - 15 - The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival will be held in Manchester, Tennessee.
- June 13 - 15 - The seventh Isle of Wight Festival takes place in Seaclose Park, Newport featuring headliners Kaiser Chiefs, Sex Pistols and The Police with their penultimate UK show. The sixth annual Download Festival will take place in Donington Park. The three headliners have been confirmed as KISS, The Offspring, and Lostprophets. HIM, Rise Against and Motörhead have also been confirmed to play the festival. Judas Priest have been confirmed as very special guests.
- June 17 - George Michael will kicks off his American leg of 25 Live tour in San Diego. This will be his first U.S. tour since 17 years.
- June 20 - My Bloody Valentine will play their first reunion show at London's Roundhouse.
- June 27 - 29 - The legendary Glastonbury Festival will take place in Worth Farm, Somerset, UK
July
- July 3 - 6 - The Rothbury Music Festival will be held in Rothbury, Michigan.
- T in The Park (Scotland) - UK festival held over weekend in July.
- July 4 - 6 - next 3-day edition of Heineken Open'er Festival in Gdynia, Poland. Ticket sale started on the 1st of October 2007. The announced artists to perform in this edition of festival are The Chemical Brothers, M.I.A., Gentleman, Massive Attack, CocoRosie, Sex Pistols, The Raconteurs, Goldfrapp, The Cribs, Jay-Z, Interpol, Erykah Badu, Fischerspooner, DJ Vadim, Fujiya & Miyagi, Róisín Murphy and DeVotchKa. Beirut cancelled their show.
- July 10 - 13 - EXIT Festival 08 is to be held on Petrovaradin Fortress, in Novi Sad, Serbia.
- July 12 - Last Chance Marie set to embark upon their debut tour alongside We Are Adam West
- July 11 - 13 - The OXEGEN music festival will take place in Kildare, Ireland.
- July 11 - 13 - The All Good Music Festival will be held in Masontown, West Virginia.
- July 23 - 26 - The 10,000 Lakes Festival will be held in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
- July 31 to August 2 - The reunited Carcass will play at the German heavy metal festival Wacken Open Air.[11] This will be their first live performance since their original break up in 1995.

- Lollapalooza will take place from the 1st to the 3rd in Grant Park, Chicago.
- Virgin Festival will take place in Baltimore from the 9th to 10th at Pimlico Race Course.
