Wikipedia:Index > Wikipedia:Pages needing attention

Of course, every entry on Wikipedia deserves attention. But some entries deserve tender loving attention. If you come across a page that you think needs a lot of work, but have no idea how to approach it, list it here so that others can find it.

Do not add articles to this list in the following categories

Other pages that frequently require loving attention

Please date your entries here. This makes it easier to judge when pages no longer need attention. Undated entries may be arbitrarily removed. You can sign and add the date at the same time by inserting ~~~~ (four tildes).

Please indicate the reason for listing a page. Pages listed with no reason given may be arbitrarily removed.

A code of honour applies -- for each time you add an article to this list, try to fix an article already on the list.

Articles that have good information, but need work for some reason

  • Happening - Perhaps should redirect to performance art, which grew out of the 1960s form; or perhaps should be a separate subject. The content there, mentioning one artist, is surely inadequate. -- Smerdis of Tlön 00:25, 24 Sep 2003 (UTC)
  • Lettrisme - article doesn't currently say what it is. Onebyone 03:52, 4 Jan 2004 (UTC)
  • Cristi Minculescu - very big photo. almost no information included. stub. Optim 19:14, 24 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Neen art - reasons for the need of a rewrite are discussed on its talk page. Angela 18 Aug 2003. Still true 23 Nov. Angela
  • Sacred art - a small stub, surely there's lots to write about it. At18 00:28, 22 Aug 2003 (UTC)
  • ALOHAnet -- needs copyediting of first section, and more research via primary or secondary references into the development of the protocol (eg did the first version listen at all before sending, how did the protocol evolve from the initial version, what features were added in what order...) -- The Anome 18:01, 29 Nov 2003 (UTC)
    • Did some work on first section. Tualha 16:36, 30 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Certification - stubby, could use more for list. Tualha 17:10, 30 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Computer surveillance - Not wikified, vague (POV?) "beware of Microsoft firewall", style could be better, and uses "you" lots. Paullusmagnus 01:40, 3 Jan 2004 (UTC)
  • Datakortet, European Computer Driving Licence, and International Computer Driving Licence. They need to be NPOVed, think they were written by an employee of Datakortet. Gentgeen 07:18, 24 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Design pattern (computer science) - a large article that apparently was inspired by, or copied in part from, a 1995 book, with about 52 links with names like "Interpreter pattern" and "Memento pattern". These in turn are articles whose contents are useless entries like "In computer programming, the interpreter pattern is a particular design pattern." with some "see also" links. Some of the links from the master article, like anonymous subroutine objects pattern, may be copyvio, with the initial article note saying it's "stub from perl design pattern book". Tempshill 18:30, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • DLL-hell - this goes off on a tangent about halfway through and ends up talking a lot about Linux distributions and the Windows OS itself, rather than sticking to the topic of what "DLL Hell" is.
  • HTML tag - should this be a how-to for writing HTML, an overview of current and past HTML specifications, or what?
  • OpenOffice.org

Countries, Bulgaria

The pages below could use some wikifying, will try and do it for some of them. Dori 07:15, Nov 19, 2003 (UTC)

Countries, North Korea

Countries, China, Hong Kong

  • China Southern Airlines - Only lists accidents that occured on CSA, does not give information about the airline whatsoever.

Economics, business, businesses, business leaders, sales

  • Anthropological theories of value - once listed on VfD, but suggestion made by Anjouli to list it here instead. Angela. 05:31, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Business ethics - was once a floundering article. I gave it a slight re-write to get it going again...but it really needs someone who knows what they are talking about. Kingturtle 00:30, 6 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Commercial Revolution - class notes of some sort; lots of good information, but needs work. Delirium 02:34, Sep 17, 2003 (UTC)
  • Diebold Reads more like a current events criticism of Diebold voting machine with only a token mention (and incomplete) of other things the company does. I removed the worst of the current events which helps get closer to a NPOV, but a lot more should be removed, and a lot more info is neededhank.
  • Exogenous variation I don't know much about the subject, just added something I found on google. Ralph 06:27AM 14 Dec 2003 (GMT -8)
  • Freiwirtschaft. Needs to have cons to the theory added. It only has pro agruments for it. I personally would consider this nonsense, but there seem to be enough people who believe it that it needs to be rebuted, rather than just deleted. The article is wildly optimistic about the theory, but completely ignores the problems that it would create. Jrincayc 21:36, 19 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Group 28 project - This page needs a thorough copyedit, plus the article no longer actually mentions the Group 28 project but focuses on something called Individual Visit. Bmills 14:46, 27 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Job creation program: anyone from, or with knowledge of Switzerland able to tackle this one? -- sannse 12:54 Mar 19, 2003 (UTC)
    • The questionable section on Switzerland was removed on August 9, 2003.
    • The article may be NPOV, but it needs much more information. -Smack 00:47, 22 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • List of subsistence techniques - looks like this could be a great list. I don't know what parts are legit and what parts are contrived. Can someone fix this one up to look nice? It may take someone with knowledge of Marx. Kingturtle 23:47, 6 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Norsk Hydro-(from Cleanup) - delete - possibly copyvio, but the text can be rewritten. It's a big Norwegian oil company, and worth a mention. - don't think copyvio, needs article - wikified and copyedited, still a bit stubby (moved here by Cimon Avaro on a pogostick 11:28, Nov 9, 2003 (UTC))
    • Added a note on the WW2 history of the Rjukan plant, and links to the company history parts of their website, also some minor grammar alterations. Arwel 13:32, 7 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Old Navy - major NPOV problems currently. Isomorphic 02:12, 3 Jan 2004 (UTC)
  • Pacific Forum Line - "is a national shipping line of Nauru." more info needing. Optim 19:17, 24 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Rocketdyne Santa Susana Field Laboratory Contamination. Once listed for deletion but kept. Needs NPOVing and other work. Angela 27 Sep 2003. Still true 23 Nov. Angela
  • Socialist economics: a terrific topic for someone who knows some economic theory and history. It is needed to complement Socialism, which is all politics and no economics. Adam 14:11, 17 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Steel tariff is very un-encyclopedial. -- Khym Chanur 07:43, Jan 1, 2004 (UTC)
  • Timeline of U.S. economic indicators - This page hasn't been touched in over six months and is very incomplete. Either someone should invest a lot of time bringing it up to date, or it should be removed. -- Minesweeper 11:31 Apr 20, 2003 (UTC)
  • Uneconomic growth - To be NPOV, this shouldn't focus solely on the policies of George W. Bush. —Minesweeper 09:39, 12 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Welfare reform. When removed from VfD, some were saying the rewritten article isn't NPOV.
  • Egg. Currently houses everything from gametes to Caesar salad. There are (old) suggestions on the talk page to turn this into a disambiguation page because eggs as food and eggs in reproduction are two rather different things. --KF 02:02, 6 Jan 2004 (UTC)
  • Food is mostly a list of lists. ~ Jake 23:58, 24 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Bachian - An island in Indonesia (or there abouts). This entry was taken from the 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica, and much of the information is obsolete. It's also an orphan. Anthropos 22:44, 1 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Kaliningrad Oblast and Yasnaya Polyana - Nicely written, but some of the descriptions seem somewhat over the top: It was a scene of earlier massive Soviet Union military build-up and now the scene of total massive breakdown. These surrealistic visions stand in stark contrast to the vanished city of Königsberg, the city of Immanuel Kant and the city of kings. -- Someone who knows more about this history of Kaliningrad/Konigsberg, Russia, and East Prussia should have a look. -- BCorr ¤ Брайен 22:54, 16 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Latin names of regions - factual problems. Kingturtle 23:33, 19 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Sarajevo - Someone started writing a historical overview a bit too wide and didn't get anywhere. It's in a very bad shape now. -- Vedran 16:46, 25 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Syracuse - I was frankly amazed at how little there is on this city and its history. Sarge Baldy 07:59, Dec 9, 2003 (UTC)

===Government / Politics / Bureaucracy === (also see below Political science / Law)

Historical figures

  • List of Mughal emperors - needs help getting links and names standardized, formatting.
  • Menander - aside from having 1911-ese (and a whole lot of screwed up Greek words), it also doesn't have anything recent about him (such as Girl Of Samos, and whatever else may have been discovered since 1911). Adam Bishop 20:37, 2 Nov 2003 (UTC)
    • I cleaned up the Greek titles and added romanizations and translations of them, but rewriting and reorganization are still needed to bring the article up to date and make its contents easier to grasp quickly. A list of plays with extant fragments might be a good addition. Flauto Dolce 03:11, 30 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • William III of the Netherlands - needs encyclopedic tone and some basic facts like year of inauguration. Rmhermen 19:44, Jan 4, 2004 (UTC)
  • Athens is almost bare of information, makes hardly a reference to anything that happened over 150 years ago. I've imported two articles into this one, but a lot of merging needs to be done, and there's still a lot of information missing. -Smack 05:13, 17 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Aviation history - needs integration (see bottom of article) -- 213.231.204.211 15:31, 21 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Babylonia and Assyria - all the articles linked on that page will desperately need some attention, as they apparently all come from the 1911 EB. I'm pretty sure they'll be extremely out of date by now. Adam Bishop 04:25, 8 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Battle of Edgehill - what there is, is a bit messy so could do with re-writing, but then the author gave up and added a note to the bottom that more needs adding. I don't know enough about it myself, or I would do it. Francs2000 00:58, 2 Jan 2004 (UTC)
  • Consequences of Adolf Hitler - an absurd title, but it is also the content that is contentious. --KF 11:42, 4 Jan 2004 (UTC)
  • Egyptian_Mythology - needs fleshing out, theres hardly anything there, just lots of headings.
  • History of Arab and Ottoman Egypt is currently a huge mass of unedited 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica material. It needs a bit edit by someone who knows the field. Adam 13:03, 24 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • History of Africa - This article is Eurocentric to the point of being racist. It's shocking that any article on African history doesn't detail black African states like Ghana, Mali, Songhai, Kanem-Bornu, Kano, Ashanti, Oyo, Benin, Ife, Monomontapa, or the Swahili-speaking city-states in East Africa, just to name some of the most notable. -- 172, May 3, 2003
    • Agreed, and phrases like "Spain had completely thrown off the Muslim yoke" aren't what you'd call exemplary NPOV either. I'd also suggest that the subject is far too big for the way that ths article tries to treat it. Really, it should be a very general overview of regions and centuries peppered with links to other articles. A bit like History of the United States only several times the area and at least 10 times the timespan -- Onebyone 18:44, 28 Sep 2003 (UTC)
  • History of Cossacks is in dire need of some work for NPOV reasons, especially the final section. Chrism 20:48, 7 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • It is in even more dire need of some copyright experts. It's a very difficult case. Requesting your input at Votes for deletion/copyvio. -Smack 22:13, 7 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • History of Fiji and/or Politics of Fiji - excellently written, but much has changed in the government over the past two years. These pages need tremendous updates. See: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] -- Kingturtle 03:24 Apr 4, 2003 (UTC)
  • History of Spain needs a lot more information. --Alex S 14:38, 4 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Kosovo War currently hopelessly biased, looks like it could have been written by the Slobodan Milosovic propaganda department G-Man 20:45, 18 Oct 2003 (UTC)
    • seems bizarre that this supports a Greater Albania entry when we have no equivalent for Serbia unkamunka 21:40, 14 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Massacre in Koniuchy is in need of NPOV editing. -- Baldhur 13:53, 12 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Regained Territories needs attention from a knowledgable neutral individual(s) (do any exist?) Maximus Rex 04:19, 7 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Unit 731 (World War II Japanese biological warfare research unit) has outline in place and needs more facts Astudent 05:16 21 May 2003 (UTC)
  • Watergate Scandal - there is a discrepancy regarding the tally of votes against the Articles of Impeachment in the House Judiciary Committee. See Talk:Watergate Scandal for details. - Dominus 01:59, 14 Oct 2003 (UTC)
    • Greetings RickK (again), I don't see how the page is out of context. The Magic Belt of Poland is a part of the history and folklore of their culture. Unless if the page should be somewhere else, I don't see how I got it out of context. ~Margi B.
  • WTO Fighting of 1999: a mess. I gather a lot of people have already tried fixing this, but judging by the result, it's been short on native-level English speakers who have either first-hand knowledge or have done research. I threw a bunch of comments into the talk page, but I'd like some responses to those before I jump in and edit. I'm waiting at least a week before I do so. Jmabel 09:49, 20 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Civil Constitution of the Clergy during the French Revolution. I'm the primary author of this page, but it's outside my real expertise, and there is a lot of misinformation in print and on the web relating to this subject, so I've had a tough time researching. See Talk:Civil Constitution of the Clergy for further comments. Jmabel 07:01, 23 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Crime fiction -- it is very academic and dry. I did not find to be very organized either. -- Two Halves April 13, 2003
    • A fair bit of refactoring done. Content split into three articles, and some added to other existing articles. I guess fit to be removed from here chance 09:10, Dec 22, 2003 (UTC)
  • Fei Xiaotong. Extremely POV. RickK 03:54, 17 Oct 2003 (UTC)
    • Some NPOV-ing done. More needed. olivier 11:41, 17 Oct 2003 (UTC)
    • More done -- enough? till we *) 14:04, Nov 30, 2003 (UTC)
  • French literature This article doesn't know what it wants to be about. DanKeshet 23:34, Nov 7, 2003 (UTC)
  • Thomas Hamilton - contains info about two unrelated persons named with the same name. this to become disambig and move the info to two appropriate-named articles.
  • History of literature - Although the title suggests this topic is so all-encompassing it could have its own wiki, we might succeed in giving a well-balanced survey no longer than the usual article of that kind. Right now, however, this seems to be work in progress abandoned by a sadly missing Wikipedian. --KF 22:48, 3 Jan 2004 (UTC)
  • F. Van Wyck Mason - Van Wyck Mason wrote about fifty crime and adventure novels with action in all parts of the world, some about historical people....but this article doesn't say much about that. Kingturtle 21:20, 30 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Medieval poetry - Needs more detail to make a decent article. Rednblu 04:04, 1 Sep 2003 (UTC)
    • I've been adding, mostly, a list of links to more specific topics. If someone wants to add some kind of interpretation here, feel free. -- Smerdis of Tlön 01:05, 27 Sep 2003 (UTC)
  • Nibelungenlied needs smoothing into proper English and would benefit from more information. Maximus Rex 06:43, 15 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Ellery Queen -- A lot more needs to be said about the various authors who used the name "Ellery Queen". --KF 21:49, 22 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Tian Han -- From Wikipedia:Cleanup - most of the text in unintelligible. Maybe a machine translation.- would have to be fixed by someone who knows Tian Han (moved here by Cimon Avaro on a pogostick 18:55, Nov 5, 2003 (UTC))
  • Vernon God Little bmills
    • I gave this page a reasonable structure and a spoiler warning, but it's still very much a stub. -Smack 07:07, 2 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Ohmynews is POV, but not so much so that it should be listed on the Disputed NPOV page. -- Khym Chanur 05:06, Oct 30, 2003 (UTC)
  • On the Road -- If you have recently read the novel, you might enjoy editing this term paper and turning it into an encyclopaedia article. Should be great fun. --KF 19:43, 5 Jan 2004 (UTC)
  • Performance poetry -- needs a lot, down to uppercase letters at the start of sentences. Bmills 11:37, 6 Jan 2004 (UTC)
  • Correspondence - I created this page, and while I don't think any of it is actually incorrect, it could use some clarifying. Wasn't sure whether to post it here on on Peer Review. Isomorphic 09:06, 8 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Costate equations - is this correct? Kingturtle 23:33, 19 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Fourier transform is pretty awful. It contains many factual errors, and it is primarily a discusion of Fourier series, rather than of the Fourier transform. Dominus 04:54, 3 Nov 2003 (UTC) Now it's better than it was, but it could still use attention. A Fourier inversion theorem ought to be added. The space of Fourier transforms of Lebesgue-integrable functions (i.e., functions, the integrals of whose absolute value is finite) is not well understood, last time I heard. The Fourier transfrom of such a function may fail to be Lebesgue-integrable, so "properly" improper integrals appear in the inversion theorem. The set of tempered distributions is its own image under the Fourier transform, so that version of the inversion theorem works out neatly. Then there's the whole matter of quadratically integrable functions.
  • List of relativistic equations - blanked for a long time; could be a useful list, but needs some explanations. -- Minesweeper 23:54, 27 Sep 2003 (UTC)
  • Quantum electrodynamics - I fixed the broken LaTex formula to conform to the author's apparent intent. I'm not sure if the "D" in the sentence following the formula should also be slashed. Could someone who knows QED double-check this please? -- Ortonmc 23:22, 13 Sep 2003 (UTC)
  • The Sheaf article is mising any explanation of why this is interesting or anyone cares about sheaves. Dominus 18:40, 2 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Standard deviation has very little information and doesn't explain how to calculate the SD. r3m0t 10:13, 17 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Law of averages and Law of large numbers - are these one and the same principle? Law of averages needs to be cleaned up anyway, as it talks mostly about misinterpretations of the principle. -Smack 03:19, 9 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • They are different - the former comes from a common misunderstanding of probability, while the latter is well-founded mathematics. The former is, more or less, misinterpretation of the latter - this needs to be explained and cross-referenced. -Paul G 14:31, 19 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Spherical coordinate system -- needs thorough formulae vs. words checking
  • Fisher-Tippett distribution -- needs a thorough rewrite
  • Hans Asperger - could use a once over. Kingturtle 23:33, 19 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Diabetes mellitus - not up to the standard of scientific knowledge. Kpjas
  • Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry -- anyone out there know from it? I'm amazed all but two of the links I made link to something; I'm in the soft sciences. I only wrote something after coming up bare when I looked it up after having it done. --Charles A. L. 15:47, Nov 24, 2003 (UTC)
  • Involuntary control of respiration - unwikified and reads like its been cut directly from a medical text. -- Pm67nz 09:25, 12 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • Passes the Google test for copyright infringement. Message sent to user regarding source, no reply expected. -Smack 00:02, 16 Dec 2003 (UTC)

  • Development hell is defined on the main page in a way that doesn't seem quite correct: it implies that "development hell" is a natural part of the filmmaking process, like casting, or hiring a location manager. Several other pages which link to it have been edited to reflect this definition. Puffy jacket 23:22, 18 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Philosophy and Larry's Text

  • Albert Camus/the Absurd. Wikification/rewrite. Move to non sub-page. Angela 19 Aug 2003. Now moved, but just an unwikified essay. Maybe delete? Angela 05:45, 23 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Larry's Text is a set of pages input by Larry Sanger in the early days of Wikipedia. It is 350+(!) pages of introduction to philosophy lectures he gave at Ohio State University. Rendering it all encyclopedic has been a daunting task, and many of these articles still need a lot of work.
  • Voltaire - needs re-organizing, updating, editing for style (most of the article is 1911EB); and some judicious trimming probably wouldn't hurt. —Paul A 06:01, 26 Sep 2003 (UTC)
  • Will (philosophy) - says copyediting in progress, but that way is May last year. andy 23:08, 3 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Physical science

  • Camphor I made this page, however I would rest better at night if someone with a proper reference checked to make sure I have the correct isomer for the chemical name as in the diagram. Maximus Rex 04:23, 7 Nov 2003 (UTC)
  • Nuclear fission Seriously cut-and-paste; headings handled wrong–I could fix that, but– not well organized; history is spotty, in places unclear or misleading. Dandrake 05:49, Oct 22, 2003 (UTC)
  • Moment (physics) now consists of two separate articles, each author ignorant that the other was writing on that topic. One of them is material formerly at moment, which is now an article on the more abstract mathematical concept of moment, applied in probability theory, that evolved out of the physical concept of moment.

  • Jerusalem syndrome - this needs to be edited so the everyday reader knows what it means. it is a bit sloppy, and assumes the reader knows what Jerusalem syndrome is already. Kingturtle 03:57, 16 Nov 2003 (UTC)

  • The Bible in Islam serious NPOV problems here. Seems like it was written by Ali-Sina or someone from an anti-islam propaganda/agitation group many verses being quoted into fabricated contexts. Might be best for someone to re-write it.
    • IMO, this article looks much better now, but it still needs some modern scholarship. RK 22:09, Nov 16, 2003 (UTC)

  • Islamic eschatology -- I know that houris and sex aren't the be-all and end-all of this, but I don't know much more than that. The article needs much more about Islamic ideas of personal eschatology (death, judgement, reward, punishment) and general eschatology (ad-Dajjal, the end of the world, etc.) from someone with some knowledge of this topic. --MIRV 22:08, 6 Jan 2004 (UTC)
  • Therblig Too small. Somebody write more? Optim 07:45, 22 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Atom
    • As of 16:42, 17 Dec 2003, the article currently states, "the sizes of these atoms are generally in the range from 10 pm to 100 pm." This is impossible: a picometre is a one-dimensional measurement, and everything in our "reality" must be three-dimensional. I image that fixing this would simply be a matter of changing it so that it says the diameter of the atom is 10 pm to 100 pm, but I'm not sure of that, so I don't feel prepared to edit it. Maybe someone knowledgeable can fix it.
      • The New York Public Library's Science Desk Reference (ISBN 0-02-860403-2) has 1 ångström (ie, 100pm) as the approximate diameter of an atom. Changing (if I can access the entry). -- Paul G 18:36, 30 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • M-theory simplified - so far, this is mostly a rather basic introduction to (super)string theory, without actually discussing M-theory save for mentioning it in the first sentence. -- Schnee 15:53, 3 Oct 2003 (UTC)
  • Reptilian humanoid - This page has been in extreme flux, between those with extreme-dinothrope opinions, and those who question the existence/dominance of "Reptiloids". Both make sweeping edits, and I hope that the end result will be a page showing concern for both reptiloids, and for those who believe in them :) JackLynch
  • Perspective -- an important subject in Cognitive Science. The article lacks any reasonable structure; lacks the "perspective" :-). As a first step, I spawned the article "Perspective (graphical)" (not the best name, I admit) to deal with painting, drawing, etc. Mikkalai 23:56, 26 Nov 2003 (UTC)

    • I put this on Votes for Deletion, but people wanted it to stay. I am actually shocked at the result. I don't know if people really read through it. It had a phone number in it! Anyway.....I just gave it a major edit. There is still a lot that is vague; important details (like years) need to be inserted. I removed redundancies and irrelevant bits, but it still needs a lot of work.
