Wikipedia:Requested moves
This page has an administrative backlog that requires the attention of willing administrators. Please replace this notice with {{no admin backlog}} when the backlog is cleared. |
Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Wikipedia. For retitling files, categories and other items, see When not to use this page.
Please read the article titling policy and the guideline regarding primary topics before moving a page or requesting a page move.
Any autoconfirmed user can use the Move function to perform most moves (see Help:How to move a page). If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:
- Technical reasons may prevent a move; for example, a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. See: § Requesting technical moves.
- Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
- A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
- A page should not be moved and a new move discussion should not be opened when there is already an open move request on a talk page. Instead, please participate in the open discussion.
- Unregistered and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.
Requests are generally processed after seven days. If consensus to move the page is reached at or after this time, a reviewer will carry out the request. If there is a consensus not to move the page, the request will be closed as "not moved". When consensus remains unclear, the request may be relisted to allow more time for consensus to develop, or the discussion may be closed as "no consensus". See Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.
Wikipedia:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.
When not to use this page
Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:
- Making an uncontroversial move – if you can, be bold and do it yourself! If you can't, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Renaming a category – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming a stub template – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming an image or other file – see Wikipedia:Moving a page § Moving a file page.
- Moves from draft namespace or user space to article space – Unconfirmed users: add
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the article. See Wikipedia:Articles for creation. Confirmed users: Move the page yourself. - Merging two articles – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed mergers, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Splitting an article – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed article splits, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Requesting that page histories be merged – list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge.
- Contesting a move request close – use the Wikipedia:Move review process.
Undiscussed moves
Autoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:
- No article exists at the new target title;
- There has been no previous discussion about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
- It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.
If you disagree with a prior bold move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move yourself. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.
Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.
Uncontroversial proposals
Only list proposals here that are clearly uncontroversial but require administrator help to complete (for example, spelling and capitalization fixes). Do not list a proposed page move in this section if there is any possibility that it could be opposed by anyone. Please list new requests at the bottom of the list in this section and use {{subst:RMassist|Old page name|Requested name|Reason for move}} rather than copying previous entries. The template will automatically include your signature. No edits to the article's talk page are required.
If you object to a proposal listed here, please re-list it in the #Incomplete and contested proposals section below.
Incomplete and contested proposals
With the exception of a brief description of the problem or objection to the move request, please do not discuss move requests here. If you support an incomplete or contested move request, please consider following the instructions above to create a full move request, and move the discussion to the "Other Proposals" section below. Requests that remain incomplete after five days will be removed.
- Stuart Wilson (actor) → Stuart Wilson — To undo my move a short while ago, as the actor is the dominantly most famous "Stuart Wilson". Chanheigeorge (talk) 05:28, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- How dominant is he? I had never heard of him. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 14:24, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- Is he more famous than the other people with the same name with wikipages? I had never heard of him. Snowman (talk) 15:47, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- Compressed-gas-powered gun → spud gun (cannon): {Discuss}. This matter was in spud gun, about (1) the small child's toy, and (2) large cannons that fire potatoes; but with time and editing the subject spread away from that topic to compressed-gas-powered weapons / devices which fire other objects and are never called "spud guns". Anthony Appleyard (talk) 13:39, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- I strongly disagree with this characterization, but this does not seem to be the place to discuss it. Rracecarr (talk) 13:45, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- The page is now in Spud gun (air cannon). Discuss moving it to Compressed-gas-powered gun. Another page involved in this is Spud gun (toy). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 14:12, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- Shakespeare's sonnets -- capitalize "sonnets" and change title to "Shakespeare's Sonnets". C H, Random Middle School Student (talk) 21:36, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- No such expression appears on the page. It is based on a very old book called "SHAKE-SPEARES SONNETS". Snowman (talk) 21:58, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- Minardi Piquet Sports → Piquet Sports — The team has been renamed for 2008 back to it's orginal name after dropping the "Minardi" part at the start. I would do it myself but the "Piquet Sports" name is already taken as a redirect to the Minardi PS article. — Phill talk Edits Review this GA review! 19:53, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- Maxipes Fik → Maxipes Fík —(Discuss)— Correct name with diacritics. --Adam Zivner (talk) 19:59, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- Incomplete. JPG-GR (talk) 23:08, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- The Mole (US TV series) → The Mole (US TV Series): Season 1 or ?? - The article title is misleading. The title The Mole (US TV Series) sounds like a generic article about the show in general, but the article in fact only describes Season 1. However, a new season of the show is starting in a few weeks (June 2), which ABC is calling only The Mole. This will make the current article confusing. --Mezaco (talk) 03:35, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- Incomplete. JPG-GR (talk) 23:08, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- Sandbox → Sandbox (disambiguation) and * Sandpit → Sandbox they are both semi-protected but there is a clear consensus for this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KitsuneDragonRA (talk • contribs)
- Can you point out the discussion where consensus to move was established? Thanks. Parsecboy (talk) 13:28, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- But a dab does not have to have the suffix (disambiguation). What is the primary topic for sandbox? A sandpit different to a sandbox Snowman (talk) 15:25, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- Not all that much, sandpit is the BE term for it, sandbox is AE. Parsecboy (talk) 13:29, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Can you point out the discussion where consensus to move was established? Thanks. Parsecboy (talk) 13:28, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- In AE a sandbox is a few feet on each side, that kids play in, a sandpit is a thousand or so feet on each side, that dumptrucks and bucket loaders haul sand out of by the cubic yard. 199.125.109.57 (talk) 16:06, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- The primary topic, if any, is actually sandbox (computer security), with 2.7 times as many views as sandbox (software development), and 7.3 times as many as sandpit/sandbox, which in common AE is clearly the primary topic, as it is the origin of all the other uses. 199.125.109.57 (talk) 16:26, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- It was moved to sandpit because too many people were editing it thinking that it was the Wikipedia sandbox. See here. 199.125.109.57 (talk) 16:53, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Other proposals
Please use the correct template: see the instructions above. Do not attempt to copy and paste formatting from another listing. |
- Queen Zein al-Sharaf Talal → Zein Al-Sharaf Talal —(Discuss)— She is not the current queen consort (and she is not the queen dowager either), so we don't need "Queen" in the title. -- (Surtsicna (talk) 18:56, 9 May 2008 (UTC))
- Thetford, Norfolk → Thetford —(Discuss)— Restore to original article location as the most common usage for 'Thetford' --Ratarsed (talk) 11:40, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- Big Six law firms → Big Six Australian law firms —(Discuss)— Simply a more understandable title. Someone suggested it at AFD. --Shalom (Hello • Peace) 05:52, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- Peace of Toruń (1411) → ? —(Discuss)— The current title is not the name name most commonly used. —Olessi (talk) 05:43, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- Peace of Toruń (1466) → ? —(Discuss)— The current title is not the name name most commonly used. —Olessi (talk) 05:43, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- Pop-Tart → Pop-Tarts —(Discuss)— reason for move - the actual name is "Pop-Tarts" (plural), the singular version is "Pop-Tart", but that is not the brand name. --199.125.109.57 (talk) 03:40, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- On The Jewish Question → On the Jewish Question —(Discuss)— User:Schwalker has requested that the page be moved to a location with the "t" in "the" lowercase. --JPG-GR (talk) 23:26, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- LTM → LTM Recordings —(Discuss)— The apparent full name of the company + people start to add disambiguation pages in the see also section for the acronym LTM. Target is a redirect to LTM. --Van helsing (talk) 15:01, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- Fritzl incest case → ? —(Discuss)— Inadequate name to describe contents of article —MickMacNee (talk) 14:33, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- Personally, I think that it should be something like 2008 Austrian incest case or something along those lines anyway.--Phill talk Edits Review this GA review! 20:15, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- The X-Files (film) → The X-files (Fight the Future) —(Discuss)— The word "film" is increasingly insufficient disambiguation wise for the first X-Files film because there is a second film titled X-Files: I Want to Believe scheduled for release July 27, 2008. "Fight the Future" is the subtitle or working title and nickname of the first X-Files movie. --Convergence Dude (talk) 14:30, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- Lazarus and Dives → Rich man and Lazarus —(Discuss)— WP:UCN. The name Dives is not in the Bible, and many searching for these characters will be unfamiliar with it. --StAnselm (talk) 13:22, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- Gangs in the Philippines → Filipino Gangs —(Discuss)— The article refers to Gangs of Filipino Ethnicity, not of soley gangs in the Philippines, but rather any gang of Filipino Ethnicity. Simply makes more sense. --(talk) Lovebus 11:20, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- Sagarika Ghose-Sardesai → Sagarika Ghose —(Discuss)— WP:COMMONNAME; no indication that she is using a hyphenated name now --Relata refero (disp.) 11:04, 7 May 2008 (UTC) --Relata refero (disp.) 11:04, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- Muhammad's wives → Mother of the Believers —(Discuss)— As a result of merge discussion the page with the most active discussions and information is currently used to hold the article. --Tigeroo (talk) 13:36, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Prince John Constantinovich of Russia → Prince Ioann Konstantinovich of Russia —(Discuss)— 9,200 hits on a search engine for Prince Ioann Konstantinovich of Russia versus 110 hits for Prince John Constantinovich. This is also the most proper phonetic form of the Russian name. --Bookworm857158367 (talk) 13:26, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Epidural → Epidural analgesia —(Discuss)— That's what the article is about. Epidural per se is an adjective that may refer to a number of things and should be changed to a disambiguation page. We should avoid jargon in titles. --Eleassar my talk 13:15, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Public policy (law) → Public policy —(Discuss)— A descriptor such as (law) is not really necessary here, since "public policy" is itself a legal term. Public policy currently redirects to Policy, which I think is too broad to be satisfactory, as it discusses policymaking in more abstract, sociological terms. --Eastlaw (talk) 08:40, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Light Rail Transit (Singapore) → Light Rapid Transit (Singapore) —(Discuss)— A user has previously moved the article to its current location based on reasoning which has since been shown to be inadequate. With an almost equal number of usage of both names, "Light Rapid Transit (Singapore)" has emerged as the correct official name used by the most relevant government body in two of its most recent major publications. --Huaiwei (talk) 19:58, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- Louis Quinze → Louis XV style —(Discuss)— More common English usage (I think), plus see Louis XIII style, Henry II style, Henry IV style... --Srnec (talk) 06:02, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- Gambrinus liga → ? —(Discuss)— Gambrinus liga is not a good name, either translate it per WP:UE or using 1. česká fotbalová liga as per Czech version of wikipedia —Matthew_hk tc 05:50, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- Mukachevo → Mukacheve —(Discuss)— Per WP:NC and supported by the respected English-language sources the most common name for the city is Mukacheve. --Hillock65 (talk) 02:40, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- Permissive free software licences → Permissive license —(Discuss)— Per WP:COMMONNAME, requested title outranks current title by 38,000 ghits to less than 2,000. --Ham Pastrami (talk) 20:49, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
- It is quite clear what "Permissive free software licenses" means, but "Permissive license" is a general term. Who knows what the people who hit "Permissive license" were looking for? Snowman (talk) 17:32, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- Nikola Zrinski → Miklós Zrínyi —(Discuss)— It's a tough question, but on the talk page there was a kind of agreement that the grandfather would stay on his Croatian name, and the younger Zrínyi would get a page after his Hungarian name. I think it's a fair compromise between Hungarians and Croatians. The younger Zrínyi signed Szigeti veszedelem in Hungarian, and it's written in Hungarian, so despite his Croatian origins, it'd be fair to move this page. --Drkazmer (talk) 15:47, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
- Nine-County Region → Indianapolis Metro Area —(Discuss)— Growing up near Indianapolis, I don't recall hearing "Nine-County Region" being used to describe the area. Google does not help either, because the first page lists nine-county regions in Colorado, Illinois, California, Texas, North Carolina, and New York; but, nothing from Indiana. --Neier (talk) 12:36, 4 May 2008 (UTC) Neier (talk) 12:36, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
- The Great Hunger → ? —(Discuss)— Too many opinions seem to dispute current title. I believe a proper survey is needed. —EstoyAquí(t • c • e) 02:09, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

- Case Closed: The Phantom of Baker Street → Detective Conan: The Phantom of Baker Street
- Case Closed: Crossroad in the Ancient Capital → Detective Conan: Crossroad in the Ancient Capital

- Case Closed: Full Score of Fear → Detective Conan: Full Score of Fear
- —(Discuss)— Although a former RM request established the usage of the name Case Closed, the reason for that was there have been already English releases of the respective manga, anime, and movies (as in the case of Case Closed: The Time-Bombed Skyscraper and Case Closed: The Fourteenth Target) under the Case Closed name. The DC/CC movies nominated here, however, have never been released in English, and the Japanese maintain their naming with "Detective Conan." Thus, naming any of these movies with Case Closed is purely speculative and violates WP:CRYSTAL. --Samuel di Curtisi di Salvadori 04:33, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
- Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages → Dr Pepper Snapple Group —(Discuss)— The "new" Dr Pepper Snapple Group spun off by Cadbury Schweppes today is, to all intents and purposes, Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages renamed to reflect the fact it is no longer part of the Cadbury stable (see here). I'm not sure there is a need to have separate articles. --Gr1st (talk) 12:42, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Recommending a merge with Dr Pepper/Seven Up, which appears to be a company that is being continued under the aegis of the new spinoff holding company. This has been a constant since Dr Pepper and Seven Up were purchased by KKR two dozen years ago. B.Wind (talk) 05:03, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon → Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother —(Discuss)— Royal watchers, but very few others, will recognize the late Queen Mother as "Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon". Better to use her final title as she was known during her 50-year widowhood, and that is still used by the Royal Family. It's also unambiguous. -- ProhibitOnions (T) 09:02, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- David Robertson → David Robertson (conductor) —(Discuss)— To dab with the more than 10 people listed in David Robertson (disambiguation). After the move, David Robertson (disambiguation) should be moved to David Robertson. --Chanheigeorge (talk) 00:18, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix → Grand Prix motorcycle racing — As per consensus of discussion. — Roguegeek (talk) 23:14, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- Goosebumps → Goosebumps (stories) —(Discuss)— Not the primary page for this topic. Goosebump is another spelling of "goose bump" (see wiktionary), and "Goosebumps" should be redirected to "Goose bump". --Snowman (talk) 15:18, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- Katie Sierra → Katie Sierra suspension controversy —(Discuss)— The core focus of this article is not the life and times of Katie Sierra, but a specific series of events that occurred over the space of two years and revolved around a controversial suspension. Sierra is not notable independently of the controversy, for example as an activist or Rosa Parks-style figure. According to WP:BLP1E, biographies of individuals who are notable for one event only should be rewritten to focus on the event, not the person. --Skomorokh 16:35, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- Worcester → Worcester, Worcestershire —(Discuss)— The town of Worcester, Worcestershire is simply not the primary topic for "Worcester", as Worcester, Massachusetts receives an average of over 5,000 readers more per month even with the UK city being located at Worcester. Since there is no primary topic, "Worcester" being the location of the disambiguation page is optimal. The current location of the articles is not in line with Wikipedia's naming conventions, as the UK town is not the unambiguous meaning of "Worcester" for the majority of readers. --Rai•me 21:52, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Occupation of the Baltic republics by Nazi Germany → Occupation of the Baltic states by Nazi Germany —(Discuss)— Current title is not inline with current usage in the sources, per WP:COMMONNAME —Martintg (talk) 09:59, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
