C. Anthony Muse is an American politician and minister from Maryland and a member of the Democratic Party. He is currently serving in his 1st term in the Maryland State Senate, representing Maryland's District 26 in southern Prince George's County. He is also the Senior Pastor of the Ark of Safety Christian Church in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

Background

Muse grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and earned his undergraduate degree from Morgan State University in history. He went on to earn a Master of Divinity degree form Wesley Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Howard University. Muse worked as a pastor at a number of United Methodist churches before founding the Ark of Safety Christian Church in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

Political career

Muse was originally elected to the House of Delegates in 1994, representing District 26 in southern Prince George's County. During his time in the house, he served on the Ways and Means Committee and as chaplain of the Maryland Legislative Black Caucus. He only served one term in the House, not running for re-election in 1998, and lost an election for Prince George's County Executive in 2002. He was elected to an open seat in the State Senate in 2006. Muse currently sits on the Judicial Proceedings Committee. In 2008, he cited the Bible in opposing bills in support of same-sex marriage, civil unions and same-sex domestic partnership recognition. He also opposed a bill allowing for hospital visitation of same-sex domestic partners, again citing the Bible.[citation needed]
