A grenade launcher is a weapon that fires or launches a grenade to longer distances than a soldier could throw by hand. A special type is the rocket propelled grenade. Most are man-portable shoulder-fired weapons, but there are also larger examples, including automatic grenade launchers capable of a very high rate of fire. Examples of grenade launchers include the M203 and Mk 19 weapons of the United States.
