This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Bands and musicians. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Bands and musicians|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Bands and musicians. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

This article has been around since December of 2006 but it never makes any real claim to notability as far as I can see. (He's been "up-and-coming" for a year and a half now?) Google search for the album name "Old Enuff 2 Vote" only gets 24 results. Cosprings had placed a speedy tag on it, but I figured to bring it here instead to get a consensus. ... discospinster talk 17:44, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete No objections to delete at this time, but keep if article improved and WP:N established. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 17:52, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete per nom. No sources to show that he passes WP:MUSIC, WP:BIO or WP:N at this time. Nsk92 (talk) 19:17, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete. Verifiability is an issue for this article which does not cite any reliable sources. Stifle (talk) 22:37, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete obviously written by the subject, non-notable. I hate people who write their own articles as bragging advertising. Cosprings (talk) 21:43, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- delete notability not established in the article doesn't pass WP:MUSIC, WP:BIO or WP:N as far as I can see. Would prefer that Lukerat88 doesn't linkspam the article but, perhaps he'd point the rest of us to the assertion of notability in the article per the relevant policies. Jasynnash2 (talk) 16:11, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Hello,
As the artist in question, I would like to let you know that I have just been signed to Geffen Records, with my first major release scheduled for January 2009. In the meantime, if my notability is in question, I will post links on the page to the various interviews, movies, and clips that I am featured prominently in. Thank you. - Keep - an influential power violence band (one of the original). They released an album and best-of compilation on Prank Records, a larger independent punk label of the 90s. They also released a slew of EPs and appeared on many classic 90s compilations. Members also went on to form Guyana Punchline. BeastmasterGeneral 17:23, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- This AfD nomination was incomplete. It is listed now. DumbBOT (talk) 18:00, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment. There seems to be some kind of a technical problem with this AfD. Which article is actually being nominated? Surely, not Humanity? The disambiguation page Humanity (disambiguation) does not seem to help as none of the items is a musical band. What is going on? Nsk92 (talk) 19:11, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Keep - band has 3 albums on Prank Records, a larger independent punk label. The band also contains members formerly in In/Humanity and Antischism. This seems to pass Wikipedia:Notability (music) c5 and c6. The article could definitely be improved by the addition of some sources. BeastmasterGeneral 14:25, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep per BeastmasterGeneral and per coverage here and here (both are only previews, not the full articles). I've added two sources to the article, which partly addresses the verifiability issue noted by Stifle. Merging is primarily an editorial decision and would be better done through discussion at Talk:Chris Bickel, where the editors of that article can also know about and participate in the discussion, rather than here at AfD. – Black Falcon (Talk) 20:19, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Comment On what do you base your circular 'delete' argument? Have you personally done a search to verify that he is non-notable? Have you seen his biography on his music publisher's site which reprints an interview [1] with him from Trace Magazine, for example? Have you checked to see if he might meet the notability criteria for composers? He co-wrote one of the songs on Alice Smith's latest album. Voceditenore (talk) 06:08, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Delete with no prejudice to re-creation when/if he does become more notable. I have done a pretty thorough search, and he does not appear to have achieved that yet. The solo tour hasn't happened yet for one thing. One of the songs on the Alice Smith album mentioned above, is notable ("Dream"), but it was not the one that Mohr co-wrote ("Desert Song"). And no, Wikipedia is not the place for advance PR. However, it was right for the admin to have declined the speedy delete. It was slapped on the article within 2 minutes of its creation! Far more appropriate to tag and then wait a few days to see if the creator or anyone else could have developed the article and provide references. Voceditenore (talk) 06:08, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Non-notable group. Fails WP:MUSIC. - it states in the Criteria that 'A musician or ensemble (note that this includes a band, singer, rapper, orchestra, DJ, musical theatre group, etc.) is notable if it meets any one of the following criteria:'
This article demonstrates that not one but three of these are met:-
1 It has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician/ensemble itself and reliable.[1]
- The passing reference in the book 21st Century Goth cannot be verified and is likely trivial. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 16:56, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- That as may be, however that still leaves two where one is requiredDarqmann (talk) 17:03, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, books, magazine articles, and television documentaries[2]
10 Has performed music for a work of media that is notable, e.g. a theme for a network television show, performance in a television show or notable film, inclusion on a compilation album, etc. (But if this is the only claim, it is probably more appropriate to have a mention in the main article and redirect to that article.)
- No valid references to prove that. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 16:56, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Now I can find [2],[3] of their CD's for sale on amazon.co.uk, both of which were released on Resurrection Records, so it would appear that they meet the criteria in WP:MUSIC to be notable.--Captain-tucker (talk) 16:48, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- The Whip (band) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) (delete) – (View AfD)
Non-notable band not meeting the requirements of WP:BAND. Article's author suggests that the given links meet the requirements but closer inspection of them reveals and short puff piece review on the new album (The Guardian), a promotional band page on NME similar to a MySpace page, the contents of which are just gig dates and a couple of trivial write-ups. The author asserts their notability on the basis of their debut album from early 2008 being on a well known indy label. WebHamster 23:09, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete If not for their being signed to a borderline notable label I'd say A7. Absolutely no notability per WP:MUSIC. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshells•Otter chirps) 23:13, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Strong Keep The band are absolutely notable and the links in the article show this. I have demonstrated that they are "the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician/ensemble itself and reliable.", which means they meet criterion A1, including an interview with the BBC, an album review from the BBC, an album review from the Guardian, an interview with Channel 4, an album review from the Manchester Evening News, an rather substantial article in the Manchester Evening News, and the NME page on The Whip which includes an article about their tour, which may establish notability via criterion A4 although this coverage may not count as non-trivial. Furthermore the BBC interview mentions how one of their singles was selected as single of the month by one of the DJs on BBC6 radio which means the notability criterion A11. Furthermore, as noted in the article their single Trash is included in the Kitsuné compilation Kitsune Maison Compilation 3, Kitsune being a very notable record label that means they meat notability criterion A10. They have released several singles on several notable record labels and their debut full length release X Marks Destination on the (not merely borderline notable, it's owned by Fatboy Slim and has released singles by artists such as Armand van Helden who has had two UK number 1 singles, and Madness) Southern Fried Records label. I don't see how any individual can reasonably claim that they do not meet criteria for notability. Furthermore everything outlined above is all documented in the article which has existed for only 14 hours or so. Given that there are so many sources that assertain the band's notability at this early stage, it seems ridiculous to delete it. Personally I feel it would have been much more productive to add a stub template to the article rather than vote it for deletion so soon, especially since another use had removed the speedy deletion tag because he felt there was enough in the article at the time for it to stand on its own as encyclopedic. Non-notable Irish jazz musician who has just released his first album. Referenced to his own websites and by a dead link to a music award for which he was nominated. - Steady Keep Ryan Key, of Yellowcard, was once in the band, which makes it notable enough. [The Spooky One] | [t c r] 05:01, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- KEEP ALL The band, as demonstrated above, meets the notability requirements. As for the albums, I'd have to say keep as well. WP:MUSIC#Albums states that "In general, if the musician or ensemble that recorded an album is considered notable, then officially released albums may have sufficient notability to have individual articles on Wikipedia." So that on its own should merit a keep. If you want to be anal about sources, they may seem non-notable, but Homecoming has a review in a notable publication. So there just may be sources floating around there for someone to add when they have the time. The sourcing problem is best dealt with the "unreferenced" tag, not an AfD. WP:MUSIC#Albums also states that "Album articles with little more than a track listing may be more appropriately merged into the artist's main article or discography article, space permitting." The albums could conceivably be merged into a "Discography" section, but that would take up too much space, and would make creating the articles again when the sources are added a time-consuming job that would best be spent elsewhere. And if the album articles are deleted, there would be no chance to integrate all the content into the article per above anyway. Finally, since the nom somehow missed this article, it would look very silly if that was the only one to stick around, wouldn't it? KEEP ALL for all of these reasons. --Pwnage8 (talk) 01:00, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Comment. There's clearly a conflict of interest here and a fair amount of 'hype' + very vague references. All that can be remedied (in theory) and shouldn't necessarily be a factor in deciding notability. However, from my research, his notability (if any) is extremely marginal. His wife, Ava Spence, is probably more notable than he is, at least in Google News. [11]. She's the Director of the DC Youth Orchestra Program. Not surprisingly, that article was also created by User:Ecepsava. Nothing for either him or Saeculum Aureum Players in Google Scholar or Books. A few mentions of him in Google News (all dates) - basically very brief concert notices. [12], apart from these relating to "Saeculum Aureum Players. [13] Below is all the relevant stuff I could find on the web.
- Re his PhD. from ISU, true, here's his doctoral recital. [14]
- His most prominent recording is probably Vintage Woodwinds. For more details, see [15]. It was reviewed a fair amount in the specialist press. See this section of the Saeculum Aureum Players web site. (I checked out the ones that are online and the ones at the SAP site are accurate quotes.) The rest are either 'forthcoming' and/or on very small labels. He appears to have been a 'band member' rather than a soloist in Saxophone Vocalise (Delos 1994) and Mozart Piano Concertos - Northwest Sinfonietta (Sonic 1999).
- Re this claim in the article: "In 2005, critically acclaimed and Pulitzer-nominated American composer Scott McAllister, wrote a piece for Spece entitled BlingBling. Spece premiered the piece at the Strathmore Music in the Mansion Series in January 2006..." Spece did indeed premiere the piece, see [16]. I haven't found any evidence that suggests McAllister has been "critically acclaimed", although he seems well enough known on the contemporary music circuit. As for the Pulitzer Prize nomination... um... anyone can nominate someone, even themselves. What counts is the jury's final selection. Having searched the Pulitzer Prize data base, [17], there's no mention whatsoever of McAllister as a "nominated finalist".
- I'll wait to see how the discussion develops, but I'm highly inclined to vote delete as of now. Voceditenore (talk) 10:50, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete per Voceditenore's research (thanks for your work) and failure to meet notability and musician notability guidelines. I was hesitant to nominate this for deletion as I didn't feel like doing the sort of research that Voceditenore did and felt like that was the good faith thing to do, although the burden of providing additional refs should really be on the article's creator. Although conflict of interest isn't necessarily a criterion for deletion, that should also be taken into account. Per the autobiography guidelines, if you're notable, let someone completely unaffiliated with you write an article about you! And if the anon editor from D.C. is reading this, it has nothing to do with academic snobbery and everything to do with the fact that Wikipedia is not here to help promote anyone's career. If Spece's work gets substantively written about in multiple non-trivial sources (think The Washington Post for example), then certainly this article could be recreated. This is the avenue you might consider exploring. Katr67 (talk) 16:37, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment I agree with you about research. I don't really feel that I can nominate an article for deletion (or even vote delete) until I've done everything possible to see if notability could be established. I've managed to save at least three from oblivion, when at first sight the situation looked pretty dire. But in this case, I'm afraid not. There really isn't enough evidence that Mr. Spece is a notable enough for an encyclopedia article. Voceditenore (talk) 14:46, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete per my comments above. No evidence of notability from reliable sources has been forthcoming. I suggest the article's creator copy the article to a sandbox, e.g.User:Ecepsava/Sandbox, if she wants to save the Wiki mark-up. Voceditenore (talk) 14:35, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Comment: Google shows 107000 hits. Within the first twenty:
- the first is a dictionary entry defining it as "an adherent crust; an incrustation"[1]
- the second points to the Wikipedia article currently under debate;
- another pertains to a blog;
- another looks like it pertains to a restaurant, but points to some search-engine ranking page;
- and the remaining 16 seem relevant to the subject matter.
- Depending on how you formulate the query, Google may suggest crustacean as a spelling correction, but none of the first 20 hits pertain to crustaceans. I would be against a redirect unless there is additional evidence that people type in "crustation" looking for information on crustaceans. 69.140.152.55 (talk) 01:16, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The result was Delete. No reliable sources to prove he passes WP:MUSIC. I've looked too, but can find little. Black Kite 20:34, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Wolf mail (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) (delete) – (View AfD)
Highly promotional and non-neutral article on a non-notable musician. I could find no reliable third party sources pertaining to him, and this article has been uncategorized and tagged for refs since 2007 at least. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshells•Otter chirps) 21:47, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment Article appears to be copied from here. He may be notable, he headlined the 2006 Narooma Blues Festival, attendance 16000 and was covered in Central Coast Express. I suspect he has a niche notability in blues music, judging from various fan sites I found he seems to have toured the world repeatedly with some success. But the current article is probably a copyright violation. Ryan Paddy (talk) 23:14, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Still no proof that he charted (as I see has been added to the article). The notability, if present, is very thin here. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshells•Otter chirps) 01:12, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Weak delete I suspect he's notable, but sources are thin (and mostly not independant) and I don't know where to look for proof of charting. This article is a wp:copyvio so would have to be stubbed if it was kept. Ryan Paddy (talk) 00:29, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Delete - doesn't assert any individual notability (additionally someone should add Tom Mikkola) to this discussion. Nothing is in their individual articles that isn't already in the band's article. Jasynnash2 (talk) 14:39, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Weak Keep a google search does show results in relation to this musician and the bands he is involved in. Perhaps merging the article Tom Mikkola and Mika Tauriainen into Entvine (cant remember the exact name) Id be happier for this to happen. I did find this source but not sure how useful itll be. Seddon69 (talk) 15:12, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep Notability is demonstrated. SWik78 (talk • contribs) 17:50, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Weak keep. I would have suggested a merge and redirect to the band article, but since he's been in two bands, that's not possible. The article does need sources, as well as do both of the band articles. Corvus cornixtalk 18:19, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Appear to fail WP:MUSIC. Two albums on a record label that is bluelinked, but it's a redirect and doesn't appear particularly notable itself. Black Kite 21:58, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am also nominating the following related page (a member of the band)

- Delete all The label is of marginal notability at best, so I'd say delete simply because there seem to be no sources pertaining to their notability. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshells•Otter chirps) 22:21, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Keep per criteria 1 of WP:MUSIC. There seems to be plenty of coverage for this band including articles or interviews here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here; album reviews here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here; news coverage here, here and here. Allmusic biography here, album reviews here and here. --Bardin (talk) 02:17, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Now for the key question: How many of these "references" are being used in the article to support the assertions per WP:V and WP:RS? Note that blogs are not reliable sources per Wikipedia policy. As of twelve seconds before I posted this, the answer was "none." Weak delete for now and it is clear the band has local following at this point. B.Wind (talk) 02:39, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- I'm not wasting any more time arguing the point. Look at the very top of the page of this allmusic.com page to which you have provided a link. You might want to revisit the Wikipedia definition of reliable sources before further belaboring that point. B.Wind (talk) 06:51, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Ouch. For someone so mistaken, you are so arrogant. The very top of that page is a link to a blog. If you actually click on it, you will be taken to a different address. I guess in your mind the New York Times cannot be a reliable source either since they too have a blog. The LA Times has a blog. The Wall Street Journal has a blog. Like all of these entities, Allmusic is a reliable source that happens to have a blog. The link that I provided is not the blog itself. Before you condescendingly suggest others revisit Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, I suggest you take a look at WP:MUSIC and note that the All Music Guide is in fact identified on that very guideline as a reliable source. --Bardin (talk) 08:27, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
