While the two major parties in the United States — the Democrats and the Republicans — are expected to be on the ballot in the 2008 U.S. presidential election in all fifty States and the District of Columbia, most minor parties will only be on a limited number of ballots, often due to limited resources available for petitioning or filing fees. Similar restrictions often keep candidates in party primaries off the ballot.
