Furvert (a neologism combining 'furry' and 'pervert') is a term used to describe people who enjoy anthropomorphic erotica ('yiffy' art), but otherwise have no connection to the furry fandom. It is also occasionally used by a sex-positive furry fan to describe himself or herself. It is considered to be pejorative by most, while others wear it as a badge of honor.

Burned Furs

From 1998 to approximately 2001, a movement known as the Burned Furs went about the business of attacking the rest of the fandom. Declaring that they represented the 'true' furry fandom, they engaged in a smear campaign to attack, discredit, or otherwise make furverts leave the fandom.

The leader of this moment was SqueeRat, an artist who had previously produced pornographic art and stories. Taking issue with "furverts" especially (but also groups such as fursuiters and furry lifestylers), the Burned Fur movement began a campaign to 'save' the furry fandom. This included, but was not limited to, accusations of bestiality and pedophilia, spamming Usenet groups and private e-mail lists, and attempting to bring down websites with content that did not suit them. The furry fandom as a whole did not change, with more attention being paid to SqueeRat and the other leaders of the movement than to her message.

SqueeRat eventually burned out on her campaign, and stepped down as leader of the Burned Furs in 2001. The movement's page is still up, but has not been updated since 2001.
