1980 Democratic National Convention

The 1980 Democratic National Convention nominated President Jimmy Carter for President and Vice President Walter Mondale for Vice President. The convention was held in Madison Square Garden in New York City from August 11 to August 14, 1980.

One notable speaker was Senator Ted Kennedy, who spoke on August 12th, and delivered a rousing and memorable speech in support of President Carter and the Democratic Party. President Carter spoke on August 14th.

Abe Beame, Geraldine Ferraro, Ruth Messinger and Howard Dean were delegates at this convention.

On November 4th, President Carter and Vice President Mondale lost to Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush in the general election having lost both the popular vote and the electoral vote.
