Porn Vandal
My comment added to a topic on Ahoerstemeier's talk page:
- It apparently is still being used for vandalism. It appeared on my talk page - put there by .melusin as a redirect, replacing the welcome message. I found it at work - I could have been in big trouble (even lost my job) if someone had seen it on my screen. Thanks for reverting the message so quickly. -- WCFrancis 20:57, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, I hope that image will be gone soon, it seems it is now identified as a copyright violation. And the bug abused by that vandal is also probably soon fixed as well. It was lucky that vandal attacked my talk as well, so I could block him and revert his misdoing quickly. But even without that image and that bug you're never sure not to see porn or other disgusting images placed by a vandal here - but usually such things are noted quickly. What annoys me about that vandal is that he also attacked talk pages of new users, which might scare them away. andy 21:04, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
80.58.11.45
Why did you remove my nomination of 80.58.11.45 from the Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress page? Gorrister 20:31, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry. That was an accident - I had no intention of removing that. There was an error message when I attempted to save an edit on a different user and I saved it a second time. Apparently, this overwrote your entry re: 80.58.11.45. -- WCFrancis 20:40, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
FLETC
Good catch on dual FLETC articles. Although I had a watch on FLETC (I live in the community where the main campus is located) I missed the article with the full name. Doh! WCFrancis 19:18, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Perhaps you can help me. I am confused about Donald W. Usher's position at FLETC. He is with the U.S. Park Police, to whom he is Superintendent for their training program there (I think). I stumbled into this while working on Air Florida Flight 90 and related articles (a story of tragedy and heroism if you haven't read it). I just want to get the wording correct in the articles linked to him. BTW, if you like my talk box on my user page, I can make one for you gratis in about 3 minutes. It helps new messages to go to bottom of your page with a heading. Mine was a gift from another user. Just drop a note bak on my talk page. Nice to hear from you! Mark in Richmond. Vaoverland 19:30, Apr 25, 2005 (UTC)
- I don't know Mr. Usher personally; however, I found confirmation in the The Maryland State Bar Association page. I found no info on the FLETC site; after all there are 81 different agencies that work with the Training Center. WCFrancis 20:57, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Stalking the Wild Vandal
I do not have any statistics, but I occasionally look at the Recent Changes made by individuals with only IP addresses. Some are vandalizing. This quasi-random sampling of vandalism shows that almost all cases are reverted within five minutes and many are reverted in seconds. Once I discovered that I was trying to revert simultaneously with another user.
The vandals must not realize that they can't even get 15 minutes of notoriety out of their defacing of entries. I can't understand what the payoff is for these people. What is the fracking point? Unfortunately, I also can't get the disgusting image out of my head of a drooling moron in soiled adult diapers sitting in front of a computer giggling uncontrollably at his cleverness and wit.
- I couldn't agree more. The negative "creativity" could be put to such better uses. I am reminded of the frustration of young and confused Holden Caulfield in J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye who was discouraged by all the "F---You" graffiti he found and the hopelessness felt that although he worked fervently at eradicating it, undoubtedly even more was being "created" faster than he could get rid of it. Fortunately, WP seems blessed with the opposite ratio, or at least a balance. I also scan all changes to my 1400 watched pages for IP addresses, and I find a large proportion are vandalization entries. BTW, if you are not a WP admin, you should become one, as there are better tools available for helping in this effort. Mark in Richmond. Vaoverland 20:23, May 6, 2005 (UTC)
- Mark - Thanks - I think. I don't know whether I'm ready for being an Admin. I still think of myself as a newbie. After all, I only started in early March 2005. WCFrancis 05:15, 7 May 2005 (UTC)
- That's all good. Just pass along any notice you take of "significant vandals", which I define as those with multiple edits and/or particularily malicious or pornographic edits. Mark in Richmond. Vaoverland 05:20, May 7, 2005 (UTC)
- Jeez. I was going to copy my response to your talk page after switching computers (so my wife could use the Velocity) and you beat me to the punch. WCFrancis 05:46, 7 May 2005 (UTC)

Pope
--Why did you call my addition to the "See also" list vandalism? Is there anything about that article that is historically inaccurate? If the article itself is vandalism, then why hasn't it been removed from Wikipedia? I think it really deserves to be included for those interested in reading about all aspects of Papal history. --Jleon 15:57, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
- My reply - Were you referring to "Most sexually active Popes"? There was no article with that name at the time I checked. Apparently you were creating that as I was mistakenly "correcting" the entry. Sorry. WCFrancis 16:04, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
- Reverted my own edit WCFrancis 16:07, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
--Thanks, I'm sure someone else will be removing it shortly. I just think that since it is a real article it should either be referenced somewhere in the material about the Pope, or removed entirely if it is deemed irrelevant or biased. --Jleon 16:12, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
- I saw earlier edit where entry was Most sexually active popes instead of List of most sexually active popes. Another learning experience. *Sigh* I'm still a newbie. -- WCFrancis 16:17, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
University of Cambridge vandal.
Posted on talk page for Vaoverland:
- Mark, thought you might like to know about the attempts to disrupt Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Tess khoo coming from a number of IP addresses assigned to Cambridge. Information listed under 131.111.8.96 (talk · contribs) at Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress. I think this constitutes significant vandalism. Is this the right way to report someone for this type of behavior on a VfD page? --WCFrancis 04:24, 14 May 2005 (UTC)
- I am not sure, but I will send a copy of this to a couple of the good folks on WP who probably know. Mark. Vaoverland 04:44, May 14, 2005 (UTC)

Just asked 81.218.238.113 (talk · contribs): "I do not understand "geometric physical theory". Can you explain it? WCFrancis 17:11, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)"
- Reply moved from my User page:
- Hallo, General relativity tries to explain gravitation as a geometric phenomena instead of a series of discrete particle interactions. Cheers -- 81.218.238.113 17:35, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- I would suggest that you make an attempt to build consensus on the talk pages for the articles you have been editing, rather than just reverting repeatedly. Wikipedia is based on neutral point of view (referred to as NPOV) and consensus regarding content. Wikipedia:Wikiquette provides guidelines for editors to go by. WCFrancis 19:33, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Thanks
thanks for the help reverting my userpage, somebody must have vandalized it when I wasn't looking. Jtkiefer 06:01, July 12, 2005 (UTC)
L. Ron Hubbard reference in John W. Campbell article
I just placed this note on User talk:Hayford Peirce regarding John W. Campbell
- Please note that I merely moved the sentence to the Talk:John W. Campbell page and said it was for the time being. I have also put several other references I have found on the talk page. Please don't feel that I am trying to revise history, just trying to achieve NPOV with all the facts.
- ~ WCFrancis 17:58, 14 July 2005 (UTC)
Okie, I appreciate that you're just trying to improve the article and make it NPOV. But the sentence you moved, even if only temporarily, is absolutely NPOV -- it just states some facts about Campbell and ASF.... Hayford Peirce 18:06, 14 July 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response (now at User talk:WCFrancis). You found my change while I was looking things up on the net (and wondering where my copy of the book collecting John Campbell's editorials might have ended up in the last move). A new user had entered a comment that Campbell had later regretted his involvement. This was in a form that should have gone into the Talk page and I moved that. At the same time I moved the reference to the Talk page, knowing it was potentially controversial. Then I found a couple of references which I have put excerpts and source URLs on Talk:John W. Campbell. Talk pages are intended to be used to attempt to reach consensus on how the article should read. I suspect that DGOQ felt that the sentence as it stood did not tell the whole story. ~ WCFrancis 19:56, 14 July 2005 (UTC)
Hello
Hello fellow Wikipedian! I saw that you had edited some stuff on Glynn County, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I live in Brunswick, Georgia (actually half way to Darien, Georgia). You must live somewhere along the coast too. Bubba73 21:42, July 22, 2005 (UTC)
- ==Greetings from the neighborhood==
- Hi. Your deduction that I live in the coast is correct.
- How did you settle on your username, anyway? Not many programmers get called Bubba.-WCFrancis 01:06, 23 July 2005 (UTC)
- I had a 1973 car that I let my sister have about 1980 because she needed a car. Her roommate said that it looked like the kind of car someone named "Bubba" would drive. So the car got named "Bubba". And it is a '73. My wife thinks she's met you. Bubba73 01:52, July 23, 2005 (UTC)
Water
Okay. Topic articles include Water, Drinking water, Tap water and Bottled water. Is this getting out of hand? May be necessary to do merge & redirect -- WCFrancis 06:39, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
Also, note the definition that leads off the wastewater article is: "Wastewater is any water that has been adversely affected in quality by any anthropogenic influence." which is true but an awfully high-falutin' was of saying "used water". --WCFrancis 06:52, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
Rover
Check the Prisoner Companion (if it can be found) for further info on original rover. I remember reading it was a driverless Volkswagon that sank (in spite of the VW ads). -- WCFrancis 13:49, 23 August 2005 (UTC)
- IMDB has this to say in Trivia:
- "Rover", the menacing white balloon that acts as a surreal sentry in The Village, was supposed to have been a large robotic machine. During the filming of the first episode, it was supposed to travel across water on a pair of rails hidden under the surface. The machine fell off the rails and into the water, damaging the motors inside. Just then, a weather balloon passed by, and McGoohan came upon the idea of "Rover" being a large white balloon that traveled by itself. The reason the cast stands still as Rover wanders past is because the balloon is being pulled by a wire. The shots were then run backwards, and edited into the film (In one episode, smoke can be seen drifting back into a chimney in the distance as Rover passes by).

I have rewritten the population cycle article. I would be grateful if you could have a look and see what you think. Capitalistroadster 11:07, 25 August 2005 (UTC)
