This arbitration case has been closed and the final decision is available at the link above. Further to this, any uninvolved administrator may, on his or her own discretion, "impose sanctions on any editor working in the area of conflict (defined as articles which relate to the events of September 11, broadly interpreted) if, despite being warned, that editor repeatedly or seriously fails to adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, any expected standards of behavior, or any normal editorial process." The full remedy is located here.

I'm looking for contributors who are willing to help me with a Criticism section on the Global Warming page. We need to first do a plethora of research to gather together reputable and qualified scientists who take issue with some (or all) of the tenets of global warming. This article is one of the only pages that doesn't have a criticism section and it is sorely lacking in that regard. I have already gathered a great deal of reference material, and a good friend of mine is an atmospheric physicist willing to help. Please let me know on my talk page if you are willing to help.Supertheman (talk) 10:49, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Thing...

Just wanted to comment on your undoing of the edits on The Thing: the sentence about Palmer was too long, should really be broken up a bit, hence the semicolon I put in. Also, & this is an very common mistake, there's a diff btwn the words apparently & allegedly, in this case we should prob use allegedly b/c it was unknown that the organs were actually human - the biology of the creature suggests that they would be imitations of human organs. Finally, I think it reads better using the word "administer" than simply "make."

One thing I can't figure out from the film is whether or not the cave beneath the tool shed where Blair was building the craft was a storage area or if he dug it out himself. Seems impossible, even for an alien whom we know little about to dig out such a large area in a small space of time, ie, only a few days. Thoughts? Tommyt (talk) 18:56, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your second edit came together better; nice work. I've got no problem with "administer," but I have to say the cave beneath the tool shed was an odd sequence even for a film such as this. Without delving too deeply into original research, I would note that the official video game allowed the player to see the chamber more extensively than it was portrayed in the film. In the game, it was not apparently connected to the tunnels beneath the station itself, but that's not to say one of the explosions set off around the camp could not have collapsed the tunnels. We have no way of knowing how it was made (or if it was already there to begin with), so it seemed best to me just to leave the description vague there. As far as the autopsy sequence is concerned, at that point of the film they had no idea what kind of creature they were dealing with. Blair noted the presence of "heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, intestines." All recognizable organs, though not necessarily human. The only definitive statement he made was that the creature's internal environment was stable and, whatever it was, it was normal. I think "apparently" would be a better choice of words there, because at that point of the narrative, the characters knew nothing of the imitation. ~ S0CO(talk|contribs) 04:30, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, did you also think that it was stupid of MacReady to use dynamite against Palmer when he was already on fire? It had just been established that any piece of the creature could assimilate an entire person, so he blows little pieces of the thing all over the camp instead of just letting it burn? ~ S0CO(talk|contribs) 04:49, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
