A logo is a graphical symbol that represents a thing or idea. The word was originally an abbreviation for "logotype" but is now the generally accepted form of the term.
(In printing a logotype is a piece of type that carries more than one symbol to make a design).
Logos used for general purposes include:
- the three-bladed radiation symbol
- the six-horned biohazard symbol
- the 'i' symbol for information points
- the 'man' and 'woman' symbols used to denote toilets
Many logos represent corporations or their product brands. These logos are generally trademarks.
