Moray, one of 32 unitary council regions in Scotland, lies in the north-east of the country and borders on the regions of Aberdeenshire and Highland. It covers parts of the traditional counties of Nairnshire, Morayshire and Banffshire.

Morayshire or Elginshire was also one of the traditional counties of Scotland, borderin Nairnshire to the west, Inverness-shire to the south, and Banffshire to the east. The traditional county town is Elgin. N.b. There is a significant detached portion of the county that lies locally in Inverness-shire, not shown on the map, whereas the ajoining part of Inverness-shire is shown as being part of Morayshire.

Until 1975, it was also one of Scotland's administrative counties. Morayshire is currently used as a registration county for property.
