Requests for adminship (RFA) is a page to nominate yourself or another to become a Wikipedia administrator and have sysop rights at this wiki. Sysop rights give Admins access to a few technical features that help with Wikipedia maintenance, such as page deletion.

Please note that WP:RFArb is the Wikipedia:requests for arbitration page (some users abbreviate this as RFAr, which has occasionally led to confusion.)

. Please see the reading list and how-to guide before applying here.

About RfA

Administrator status is granted to trusted members of the community who are familiar with Wikipedia policies. Admins have no special authority on Wikipedia, but are held to high standards, as they are perceived by some users as the "official face" of Wikipedia. Admins should be courteous, and should exercise good judgment and patience in dealing with others. Nominees should have been on Wikipedia long enough for people to see whether they have these qualities. That said, adminship should be no big deal. Admin actions are reversible; being an admin is primarily an extra responsibility, as there are rules and policies that apply only to admins.

Nomination standards
Most new admins have at least three months of participation and 1000 edits. See the standards for adminship expected by some regulars on this page. You can use kate's tool to count a nominee's edits; remember that # of edits may be inflated by frequent trivial edits.

You may nominate yourself.

Anonymous users cannot be nominated, nominate others, or vote. They are allowed to comment.

Nomination process
Nominations usually remain for seven days, for votes and comments. Bureaucrats may at their discretion extend this when consensus is unclear; the threshold for consensus on this page is roughly 75-80 percent support. In exceptional circumstances, bureaucrats may also choose to void the votes cast and require a revote. Nominations which will clearly fail may be removed earlier to prevent discussions that generate ill will; however, as most editors don't visit Wikipedia daily, a reasonable amount of time should be allowed. Some users oppose early removal under any circumstances. If your nomination is rejected, please wait a reasonable period of time before applying again (say, a month).

Self-nominations Please review the qualifications above. Some editors feel that self-nominees should "exceed the usual guidelines by a good measure", have an account name that is many months old and have many hundreds of edits (in practice anyone with less than 1000 edits has no real chance of passing). This is not to say that self-nominators are necessarily any less qualified than "sponsored" nominations. Most voters can be presumed to consider all nominees on their own merits, and there are even a few who look with special favor on self-nominations as expressing a suitable independence. A good solid background is equally important for both kinds of nomination. Obviously unqualified nominations of either kind may be removed without discussion.

Voting
To add your vote, edit the section for that candidate. All Wikipedians with an account are welcome to vote. Long discussions should be held in the Comments section.

Please indicate whether you support or oppose the candidate. You may also cast a neutral vote, which will not be tabulated in the final calculations. When you cast your vote, please consider providing an explanation, especially on oppose and neutral votes, so the candidate or other voters can understand and address it. In a close nomination, all explanations and comments will be considered, including those in neutral votes. You should also update the vote tallies when voting.

In your comments and responses, please be respectful to others. Some dialogs may become contentious and emotional. Remember that we are all people with feelings, emotions and pride.

To nominate someone (including yourself)

  1. Edit this page and add the following text above the most recent nomination:

    ----
  2. Follow the red link to Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/UserName and add the following:
    ===User:UserName===
[SERVER Vote here] (0/0/0) ending 00 Month 2005 (UTC)
USERNAME - Your nomination/description of the user --~~~~

  3. Preview your nomination to check it; replace 00 Month with the date from your signature but make the date seven days later.
  4. If the nominated user is on the List of non-admins with high edit counts, please update their status to reflect the new nomination, with a link to the nomination page.

Nominations must be accepted by the user in question. If you nominate a user, leave a message on their talk page and ask them to reply here if they accept the nomination.
