Wikipedia:WikiProject Webcomics

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Carnildo (talk | contribs) at 18:06, 7 September 2005 (VfD: Destination for non-notable comic articles). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

On November 1, 2004 a suggestion was made on the blog Websnark (a blog focusing on webcomics) that Wikipedia is the ideal resource for information on webcomics. This idea makes a great deal of sense - we are the only game in town, in a lot of ways, when it comes to encyclopedic coverage of current events and new trends, and our webcomic coverage is frankly on the sketchy side.

The proposal from Websnark (Found at [1]) was that any webcomic with an archive of 100 strips or more should get an article. Barring any community consensus to the contrary, this seems like a fair guideline for inclusion.

The point of this page, then, is to provide a central launching point for the efforts towards this goal. If you're linking here straight from Websnark, you might want to stop off at Wikipedia:Tutorial and learn your way around the Wikipedia. You might also want to go get a user account.

Otherwise, here's the plan. List of webcomics conveniently doubles as a list of all of the webcomics that Wikipedia has articles on so far. If you think you can start an article that isn't on the list, go for it, and then add it to the list. If you find an article that exists and isn't on the list, add it to the list.

In honor of Eric, who has been unceremoniously drafted as our Fearless Leader, I propose that his daily trawl lists, at [2], [3], and [4] be the first order of business. We should also, relatedly, probably make sure that everything on [5] has an article, but that's really more of a project in comics in general, and, really, everything at ucomics should have an article. But that's really more for Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics.

So, here's the plan. Three lists follow. The first two represent work that we need to do. You can contribute to this project, therefore, in one of two ways - you can find things that should be on the lists below but aren't, or you can take something that's on the lists below and work on it.

Articles we need

Add any articles that we need but don't have here.

Webcomic genres

Articles that need lots of expansion

Add any articles that are skimpy or need serious help here, perhaps with a description of what help they need.

Articles which are OK but could still use some work

Articles that kick ass

Add any articles that have progressed through both of the above lists and that we now get to brag about here.

  • Template:Wcl: This article didn't go through the above process, but is perhaps one of the best examples of what we hope to achieve in the project. (Further it has been recently revised with some attention to this WikiProject's goals.)
  • Template:Wcl: Similarly, didn't go through the process, but is very thorough

VfD

Comixpedia has started a WebcomicWiki using the GFDL license. Well-written webcomic articles that don't make the notability criteria can be moved there: they've got a page for discussing import from Wikipedia. To maintain GFDL compliance, articles that are up for VfD will need to have their histories copied over to the talk page on WebcomicWiki.

Articles currently on VfD

Add any articles here that are currently up for deletion.

Articles that may need a vote for deletion

Add any existing articles here that are non-notable or vanity.

Articles that have had a VfD

webcomic-stub

Use {{webcomic-stub}} for an article that is a stub instead of {{stub}}. It should be placed at the bottom of the article (preferably before the categories).
