Aswagandha (Withania somnifera), is a plant which has long been used as herbal medicine in India. It is compares very favorably with certain other similar herbs like ginseng (Panax ginseng), Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus), dang gui (Angelica sinensis), reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum) and South American suma (Pfaffia paniculata).

Aswagandha has been used as a medicine by people of the Indian subcontinent for at least last 3000 years for this plant’s ability to enhance energy and vitality, stamina and endurance. It also increases immunity and promotes longevity. It nurtures the nervous system and induces a calm state of mind. This herb has also anti-inflammatory properties, and hence is also used for the treatment of arthritis and rheumatism. It is also believed that Aswagandha has certain aphrodisiactcal properties.
