Getting started

I've been a Wikipedia reader for awhile (and occasional anonymous editor when I run across minor errors), and decided to create an account and be a little more involved, mostly for my own amusement.

I've also been a bit of a Wikipedia skeptic, so this will allow me to better evaluate it.

Me

I am currently a 2nd year law student at the University of Dayton. Wikipedia provides me a break from endless reading and writing to do more reading and writing, but in a different and still intellectually stimulating way.

Most of the pages listed below I stumbled upon while looking up information on another subject; I didn't choose to become involved in them because of personal interest, but just because they looked interesting enough to contribute to.

My Wikipedia Philosophy

At least for now, I'm taking the approach to Wikipedia of quality over quantity, in that I think it is more important that Wikipedia have quality articles on noteworthy subjects than countless articles on every possible thing imaginable. I am skeptical of anything that starts with the words "List of." I value NPOV in every article; but I do not feel that NPOV means we must give all POVs equal time. In other words, a POV held by a small group of people does not deserve the same attention as that held by the other 99% of the people. Also, the best way to avoid POV is with the facts, be careful to state them in an NPOV manner.

While facts themselves might be considered inherently NPOV; the manner in which they are presented can very easily be turned POV. I would argue this is how most POV violations occur.

I think I might have put more articles up for deletion that I have created; but I have definitely improved more articles than I have deleted.
