Anne Roylance was born in Brisbane, Australia in 1960. She has two sisters, Robyn and Philippa and one brother Richard. Her father, Keith Roylance was a spare parts salesman. He was also a keen fisherman, general funnyman and hobby carpenter. Her mother, Mary Patricia Roylance(nee Gaffney) was born in Warwick and was a nurse and nursing administrator. Anne and her husband Matthew McKendry have three children Maggie, Ruth and Tess.

Anne began writing music theatre scripts when she was a student at the Queensland Conversatorium of Music studying for her Bachelor of Music (Ed) in the late seventies. It was during that time that her sister Robyn established a community based theatre company called Mummers Theatre Troupe. Anne was an active member of the Troupe writing, composing, performing and co-producing original music theatre experiences for Brisbane audiences.
