Middlesbrough Futsal Club was founded in 2007 after the success of the University of Teesside, who became British University Championship 2006 and won various regional competitions. Middlesbrough kicked off their existence winning the York Open and finished second in the Northern Futsal Premier League in 2007. They now play in the FA FUTSAL LEAGUE[1] – the official national championship of indoor football (FUTSAL) in England – and the FA FUTSAL CUP.

They also compete regionally in the Tees Valley Futsal League and travel around Europe competing against some of the top professional teams[2]. Middlesbrough have a heavy student influence due to their partnership with University of Teesside, where they have played their matches since they were founded in 2007 and they also form the bulk of the team who represent the University of Teesside in the national university championships – BUCS.

In 2008, Boro finished sixth in the FA Futsal League North and retained the Tees Valley Futsal League, while the University of Teesside reached the semi final of the BUSA Championship. They also had two players (now left the club) selected for the England national team, one of whom also represented Great Britain Universities in the World University Futsal Championship 2008.

Plans are already afoot for 2009 in order to improve and challenge for a place in the playoffs and this is accompanied by a move to Thornaby Pavilion.
