808’s & Heartbreak is the upcoming fourth album by Kanye West.[1] The album is scheduled to be released on December 16, 2008.[2] The "808" in the album title is a reference to the Roland TR-808 drum machine.

The album will mark a stylistic change for West, as the album will consist of him singing with the aid of Auto-Tune, and will feature little rapping silimar to his guest appearance on rapper Young Jeezy's "Put On" single, as evidenced by the first single, "Love Lockdown".[3]

Many fans have already speculated that the December release date will put West in direct competition with Chamillionaire, whose third album is set to debut the same month, and Jay-Z's The Blueprint 3, which is also scheduled for a December release.

Background

The first single off the album will be "Love Lockdown", which has already been performed live and is planned for release to U.S. Top 40 radio on October 7, 2008.[4] The studio version of "Love Lockdown" was leaked onto the internet on September 10, 2008 and is already being played on the radio. The song was premiered at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards[5].

Tracks

It was confirmed that the first single would be "Love Lockdown". It premiered as the closing act to the 2008 MTV VMAs. There is also another song called "Heartless" which West has been performing live but currently nothing is known about any other songs.[6]
