Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee
The Archdiocese of Milwaukee is a Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the United States.
Area covered
As of 2003, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee covers the City of Milwaukee as well as Dodge, Fond du Lac, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha counties, all located in Wisconsin.
History
The Diocese of Milwaukee, established on November 28, 1843, by Pope Gregory XVI; the Diocese was elevated to Archdiocese on February 12, 1875 by Pope Pius IX. The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist is the episcopal see of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.[1]
Basilicas
Basilica of St. Josaphat, in Milwaukee, is located in the Archdiocese. Holy Hill National Shrine of Mary, Help of Christians, a minor basilica in Hubertus, Wisconsin, is also located in the Archdiocese.
