Chanelle Hayes

Chanelle Jade Hayes (born November 11, 1987 in Styal, Cheshire, England) is an English television personality, singer and model. She was a student at NEW College, Pontefract, Wakefield, West Yorkshire, studying Spanish, Music & English before becoming famous by appearing on the Channel 4 reality show Big Brother in 2007 when she was 19 years old.

Early life

Chanelle was four years old when her mother, a prostitute, was murdered. Chanelle was then put up for adoption and was raised in Wakefield, West Yorkshire by Christine and Harry Hayes.[1]

Career

In 2007, Chanelle appeared on the eighth series of the UK's Big Brother. She proved a very popular housemate, both with her fellow contestants and the viewing public. Chanelle began a relationship with another contestant, Ziggy, while in the house, and their relationship was the main focus of the show for many weeks until Chanelle eventually left the house on day 62. Outside of the house, Chanelle and Ziggy attempted to rekindle their romance, but it was short-lived and eventually they went their separate ways.

Following her appearance in Big Brother, Chanelle became a favourite of the press in the UK, and she appeared many times in newspapers and magazines doing photo shoots and interviews.

In May 2008, Radio 1 declined to add her debut single to the playlist, despite interviewing her on the Chris Moyles breakfast show[2]. In May she also topped a poll to find Britain's least talented celebrity[3]. In June, she stated her "fame may be over" as TV producers started putting her television ideas on hold[4]. In August the organizers of V festival reportedly declined her request to sing[5].

Chanelle is said to be in talks about a new TV dating show[6]

Television work

Big Brother (5 episodes, 2007): Chanelle became one of the most memorable housemates of the 2007 Big Brother series (awarded Favourite BB Housemate[7]), eventually walking out of the BB house after a row with on/off boyfriend at the time Zachary Lichman.[8]

Wannabe: Hayes was asked to become a member of the judging panel in a VH1 UK show, Wannabe, where Chanelle and a panel of judges had to put together a band of 25+ year old girls for a live concert.[9]

Nuts TV: Chanelle has recently Co-presented live on Nuts TV with Oj Borg and has been asked to present the show on a regular Wednesday slot.[10] She had to stop presenting on the channel to make time for her music career.

Chanelle: Wannabe Popstar: Chanelle is also to star in a new reality TV series for VH1 UK called "Chanelle: Wannabe Pop Star",[11][12] launching on April 18, 2008, charting her progress as she attempts to make a debut single and music video.[13]

Chanelle has also appeared on This Morning, Celebrity Scissorhands and Ready Steady Cook (1 episode, 22 February 2008, 2008) TV shows. On Thursday June 5, 2008 Chanelle appeared on the BB Launch Night Special of The Friday Night Project (1 episode, The Big Brother Launch Project, 2008). Among other things she co-hosted a quiz section with Brian Dowling. She has also appeared on How TV Changed Britain (1 episode, Fame, 2008).

Modelling

Chanelle has modelled numerous times for Diva Corsets and regularly appears in the media promoting the Michelle for George lingerie line.

In May 2008, Chanelle revealed that she wanted to make one of the biggest-selling calendars of 2009.[14] She revealed that she was aiming to beat glamour models Lucy Pinder, Gemma Atkinson and Keeley Hazell to the title, saying "All the girls are gorgeous and it’s brilliant to even be up there competing with girls who have been in the business a lot longer than me. But me, a relative nobody, came fourth this year, which is pretty damn good! Now I want to do even better and maybe knock one out of the way!"

Music

Having signed with Eminence Records[15], 7th Heaven (Ministry of Sound) have released a mix of Chanelle's new song "I Want It" for the dance clubs.[16][17] Chanelle's Original "I Want It" song and music video has premiered on MTV. The CD and online download of the song (including three different mix versions and a 7th Heaven radio mix music video) was officially released on Monday 12 May 2008. The song entered the official UK Singles Chart at No. 63.[18] The 7th Heaven and Club Junkies Remixes of the song reached top 10 in combined DJ club charts. Highest position No.2 in the UK Pop Club Charts (30/04/08)[19] and No.9 in the Upfront Club Charts.[20].
Chanelle has hinted at the possibility of recording a debut album.[21]
